Default Limited Guitar Pricing

A friend of mine told me recently, and I find this extremely hard to believe, that the limited models are priced the same as the normal model of their type e.g. GC. I find this REALLY hard to believe due to the upgrade in wood. Please let me know.

thanks.

some LTDs are priced below the standard models -
the 08 714ceLTD cedar/koa is less than a 08 514c

the 03 714ceLTD was sitka/cocobolo, with abalone
rosette & top edging, maple binding/wedge, snowflake
fret markers & gloss cocobolo headstock & it was less
than the standard 714ce model

quite a few 400LTD rosewood models were priced
the same as the ovangkol 400s, & others offered
substantial upgrades for minimal upcharge, such as
the 06 914ceLTD (cocobolo, maple binding, cindy inlay)

Maybe so, but even a blind squirrel gets a nut every once in a while .

The upgrade is in the type of wood, not necessarily the visual appeal of the wood. Let's say Taylor buys a couple of $$$$ logs of koa/maple/whatever. There will be some AAA sets in there that are just eyepopping; Those will end up in Presentation Series guitars, or something equally special. But there'll be some sets that don't quite have the same even figuring or nice color. Those will end up in a limited edition. If you don't require the perfect aesthetics, the limiteds are a great way of getting the desired tonewoods.
