Elixir has twice made attempts at developing nylon string basses (along with their version/branding of normal trebles), that I know of. I was a beta tester for one run, and it was pretty much as the Elixir Fac rep said: the coating was less cohesive on relatively spongy, floppy nylon than on stiffer steel strings.

I thought they sounded pretty darn good, and they definitely had reduced squeak, but they shed their skin quickly, by comparison. FWIW.

Classical guitar strings already last waaaay too long. Why would we want to extend their life any further??
