Elixir has twice made attempts at developing nylon string basses (along with their version/branding of normal trebles), that I know of. I was a beta tester for one run, and it was pretty much as the Elixir Fac rep said: the coating was less cohesive on relatively spongy, floppy nylon than on stiffer steel strings.
I thought they sounded pretty darn good, and they definitely had reduced squeak, but they shed their skin quickly, by comparison. FWIW. |

Classical guitar strings already last waaaay too long. Why would we want to extend their life any further??
