Default Old Grimes

An autumnal-sounding fiddle tune, mellow as a punkin filled with apple butter. Mandolin and guitar.

Sometimes said to be a.k.a. Dubuque, but the tune of that name that I am familiar with has a different melody and chord progression. Both tunes have some melodic affinity with Whiskey Before Breakfast.

Old Grimes seems to have been rather obscure before Chris Eldridge and Julian Lage started to play it a few years ago.

Enjoyed that. Like after hearing a couple of your recordings in the past, went to hear other versions and had a great time with it. Found music too. Once again, inspired. Thanks for sharing.

Very well done, Dave. Did you play both parts?

Thanks for posting.

Thanks for listening, Roger.

Yes, everything on there is me. There are four parts at any given time - strummed rhythm, mando chop, single-note accompaniment and melody.

Thanks for listening, SHJ.

I wasn't familiar with this tune until the most recent issue of Acoustic Guitar magazine showed up; it included a transcription of the Eldridge-Lage version. It sounded instantly comfortable the first time I played through it, though getting it up to speed was a chore.

There are a number of nice versions on Youtube on a variety of instruments.

Thank you, Rémy, I always appreciate your comments.

I was away for a bit, but I think I've listened to all your recent pieces, which I liked a lot.
