Default My latest CD reviewed by "Minor 7th"

"Say It Out" is the second CD of mine they have reviewed (earlier they reviewed my CD "Guit Sense"). Thanks again to the folks at "Minor 7th"
Some sample tunes from "Say It Out" http://dcoombsguitar.com/Guitar%20Mu...tOutMedley.mp3

Derek Coombs "Say it Out," 2014 This impressive selection of 15 original songs by master guitarist Coombs is like an All-Occasion Gift Basket - it's chock full of treats, and there's something for every taste. There is Henry Mancini-style pop, exquisite ballads ("Sustain Me"), jazzy-inspired ("Felicity"), percussive moody standouts ("Nowhere to Run," "In the Mists of Time") and funky Brazilian jazz ("Bossame"), one of the strongest on the album. It's clear that Coombs played classical guitar for over three decades before trying his hand at fingerstyle and composing- nothing less could result in the gorgeous and impossible scales, respectively, of "Black Feather" and "The Stone Skipper." The album ends with the soulful "Where to?" Listeners will hope the answer is, "More!" © Céline Keating

I've been listening to your "Say It Out" CD quite often. I keep it in my vehicle for the drive to/from work (not the best listening environment but I'm a captive audience). I've really been enjoying it. In fact, I was thinking about contacting you about the possibility of getting written music (standard notation and/or tab) for a few songs on the CD.

Thanks guys. Chuck, let me know which tunes - if time allows I may be able to tab some things.

Hi Rick,
I was thinking of something I'd enjoy playing and hopefully within my ability: how about "In My Heart" (first choice), or maybe "Where To"? You sure don't need to do this just for me, so if you had thoughts/plans for getting other songs onto paper put your efforts where it makes the most sense for you. Also, don't expect to hear me play it any time soon; I'm very slow in the learning new stuff department (just now working on your arrangement of Amazing Grace).

Thanks,
Chuck

Nice review, congratulations, it's not easy! It is a well deserved nod to your playing.

One of my CD's got a great review from them too and I'm more more of a writer than player so I was very surprised.

http://www.minor7th.com/shorttakes6_03.html

Jay Howlett "American Ghost Town", BlahBlahWoofWoof 2003 A song-cycle which loosely chronicles Howlett's rural travels throughout the United States, American Ghost Town bemoans an ongoing social, economic, and environmental decline of a heartland he loves dearly. Rather than curse the future, the singer / songwriter celebrates the past with a folksy diary of tunes torn between the author's fierce patriotism and society's dispassionate conservatism. Never preachy, Howlett spins his engaging tales with a spare, low-key demeanor, strumming his acoustic guitar behind the beat as fretless bassist Myron Dove, percussionist Tim Siefert, mandolin/fiddle whiz Joe Craven join a host of harmony vocalists who weave a shimmering backdrop to the strong, plaintive melodies in each cut. With lyrics made all the more powerful by rootsy, spare arrangements Howlett's collection is essential listening for fans of Bruce Cockburn, John Prine, Louden Wainwright III and solo Bruce Springsteen. Thanks Steve and congrats Jay. I won't submit my music to review sites or contests you have to pay for, so I am happy Minor 7th is available. Often they do not do reviews more than once for the same person, so I was pleasantly surprised they have reviewed two of my CDs now.
