Plenty of people use PCs to record. But you can find Macs for less than a grand – look here:

At the studio where I work we've gone back and forth between PC and Mac due to issues with support for various video and network software. We are currently working on the PC platform in all four rooms and doing fine.

Yes people use PC's all the time

Perhaps some more info on your intended use/s ?
The lack in qualifying info may be leading you a conclusion that may make sense to you but laking any details of what all of your actual intended uses might be makes your conclusion about the price of a mac not accurate, for example if you don't need a laptop , the Mac mini starts at $599

I would suspect more people are using PCs for homerecording than Macs.
Of course if you want to use Garageband or an old ProTools version, you don't have a choice.

??? Ok you stated that you couldn't afford a Mac because you couldn't find a Mac for less than $1000. So I suggested a Mac Mini and yes you need a monitor . However If you going to use an interface it will be 150 regardless of computer, so that really doesn't factor in. So $599 +$100 = $ 699 which less than $1000 ?? Am I missing something?

I've used a PC to record since at least 1990.

Today, I mostly use an iPad and Auria. But I still use
SONAR for PC on MIDI. I use Soundforge on PC for audio editing.

I have used a PC for recording for years. I also have a newer version of Pro Tools and have yet to see any issues running it on a PC or any difference in quality of the final result.

I have a PC laptop that I use for mixing but I use a dedicated digital recorder fro recording because the fan on my laptop is so freakishly loud - anybody else have that problem? I have heard that fan noise is not so much an issue with Macs.
