Ouch! That's expensive! I could get an Ear Trumpet for about the same price. Oh well, I'll keep looking for other options. It is difficult to spot any ldc mic's apart from the Ear Trumpet range that are built specifically for live gigs rather than for the studio.

I'm miss-using a Rode NT1a for gigs at present, and am looking for other options to see if I can improve on it (although it actually does the job pretty well).

Looks like someone beat me to it. The clam shaped body is an instant giveaway. I don't think these ever really took off.

I have a pair in a Pelican case ready to go for acoustic gigs. They are super quiet and have a very flat frequency response. In other words, what you put in is what you get out.

BTW, the KSM32 has a medium size capsule, at 3/4".

Actually I think they are KSM 32, I don't know if that swivel mount actually fits on a 44 ? and they are about $400 less than the 44

No there is a Swivel mount for the KSM44, and most likely the mic is set for omni to pick up the whole band.

I'm going to guess a KSM44 for the age of the video. The KSM44A was introduced around 2010 and the Youtube says the video was put up in 2009. The singers are addressing both sides of the mic, so it's likely set to a figure 8 or omni pattern. I have a KSM44, 32, and 27 all bought used. Both the KSM44 and 32 came with the swivel mount, as well as the shockmount in the their cases. The KSM27 may have had a swivel mount originally, but only had the shockmount when I bought it.
The KSM44 I bought off eBay in 2013 for $452. The KSM32 for $330, KSM27 for $160 as well in 2013 from eBay. All good mics that work well for different sources.

^. Though I think it's sometimes overstated, there definitely is something to having a mic that inspires the client. Even performers who aren't tech-savvy will often ask me about the mics, what's special about them, etc. People pay attention to that stuff.
This is a mic that you love, but you never bring her around your buddies. She's a bit round in the wrong places.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

I would say that it wouldn't have to be omni - cardioid can be better on stage. You don't want to pick up the audience or the monitors if you have them. So they could be using the KSM32? The 32 is listed for live use as well as studio use. But is has a different, smaller electret capsule.

If anyone can think of a stage mic' that may work better for live sound reinforcement than my Rode NT1a, please speak up!

I would have dropped this question into "Acoustic Amplification" but I expect those of you who record have a better breadth of knowledge on mic's.

When it comes to mics, good or bad is all relative to the sound you want. What's good for me on one person might be bad on another, or might be bad on that same person, in a different context. I couldn't begin to guess what might be a good mic for you without knowing what specific problems you have with the NT1.

One of the biggest hits the rock band 30 Seconds to Mars ever had used an NT1 on the lead vocal, despite the rest of the album using a very expensive mic. It's less about what mics are "good" and all about getting the sound you want for the application.
