I like the new inlays on some of the models. Stars or whatever they're called. Pretty cool-looking. But that's just me being superficial. I'm sure the tone enhancements are good also.

Still love my 2017 D-35, but would love to have the 2018.

Ah well, it'll have to wait.

I think you mean "diamonds and squares" otherwise known and "Style 28 long pattern". Let's not start calling them stars. There's enough bad nomenclature circulating already.

I stand corrected. Luckily I didn't say "sparkly shiny things."

They look great, but I find it odd that they went with 2-5/32" string-spacing at the saddle? Even though that's the same or slightly wider spacing than what these models previously had, I would have thought that 2-3/16" or 2-1/4" were more popular? But what do I know...Martin seems to be doing just fine without my opinion!

I think that’s actually the technical term for the 42 series appointments.

I might be singing the same song. :-) I really like the HD28. Does that already have forward shifted scalloped braces?

As for the D-35, I always disliked the bright white binding. So the vintage shaded binding is much better!

Will all these standard models have 1 3/4" Nut width? (My preference!)

I can't believe it happened again. I bought two guitars in 2016/2017 that have both upgraded with exactly the same features I wanted when I compromised at purchase. *Face Palm* My music gear is now no different than my iPhone. LOL

Specifically, I just bought a D12-28, which is a nice guitar, but I would have definitely sprung for the new features. So, I have to play one and see if it sounds better, or just looks better. Otherwise, I've gone through a bunch of gig guitars trying to find the one. What I've wanted all along was an HD-28 / HD-28V with the new neck and a good pickup system. I tried the Retros with the awesome F1+ pickup, but couldn't find one that had the right acoustic tone. And, they are so rare that you could't be picky. Unfortunately, I don't think VT Enhance is the answer for me, but now you can get a forward shifted/scalloped braced HD-28 with the new neck and DROP IN saddle, should I choose to go with a Matrix and Aura pedal.

Besides that, they gave me gas for a 40 series. I have no practical use for a 40 series. But, now they come with my favorite neck and forward shifted bracing.
Drool.....
You are not alone! I just bought my Custom Shop 000-28 because I wanted a 000-28 with scalloped bracing. Now, I have an Adirondack top and GE bracing, but I paid for it! I could have saved about $500 by going with the new 000-28, but I personally am ok with $500 more for a Custom Shop Martin.

Guitars have become like electronics and cars, you are 100% correct on that.

The HD-28 is what is calling me right now. This is going to be a looooong year full of gas pains.

I'm no expert, but yes I believe the HD-28 has always been scalloped. The new nut width is the big selling point for me.

I'm more than happy with my D-18, but it is going to be very difficult not flipping it for an HD-28 this year...

Thanks! I agree the nut width makes a difference in my playing execution. I always prefer 1 3/4" (for ME). And the binding not being Bright white is a huge value add. Trivial or not, I vastly prefer the diamond position markers. I never liked the large white dots. Not a deal breaker, but they always looked 'wrong' to me.

Oh my! You "CAN'T" flip the D-18 for an HD-28. The Rule is; You must have "both". Silly wabbit.

Very exciting news. I wonder about some models like the OM-28. Wasn't it just redesigned a couple of years ago? What did they do to update this one? Also, is there a link to more specific information. The one I was looking at showed the models but nothing about string width etc.

While playing a B7 1st position chord with chubby fingers? Yes.

Yes, absolutely. For people who finger pick, or have fat fingers, it makes a big difference. All of the professional level Taylor guitars have 1-3/4" nut also. There is a reason the industry is coalescing around a common standard.

Yes the bracing on the HD-28 has always been scalloped (to my knowledge) but the newer version that Martin is introducing will also be forward shifted in it's placement. Makes me wonder if the HD-28V is headed into retirement along with the D-28 Marquis? Chris may be trying to streamline the inventory?
