Bridge lift. Neck separating from body. Holes other than the sound hole. Huge dents in the back of the neck. Stickers. A nylon string guitar strung with steel strings.
(In regard to buying used)

A nut less than 1.75"
A heel crack
A guitar larger than a OM/000
Barn door electronics
Heavy thick shiny nitro finish
Baseball bat sized necks(I like a V shaped neck)
Superslim necks(I like V shaped neck)
Shady sellers
Any guitar made in a factory after 1964

Technically this is not the guitar that's a deal breaker. I've been in a local shop at least 6 times to consider a purchase. One of the managers insists on talking endlessly about his recording studio at home, number of Taylor guitars he owns, and on and on...and on. I have stopped going there in the vain hope it will be different. I'm slow, but thorough....

I wouldn't have thought of it, but someone mentioned it can't be left handed. I'd agree with that. Other than that, it has to sound good. I'm pretty flexible after that.

Nut must be 1 11/16" or it's a no go.

Mmmmm
1. Tone
2. Glossy finishes I feel it doesn't let the guitar breath and give the tone the wood is meant to give.

My New Yamaha A3M proved me wrong.

Which I'm happy with... It's my forever guitar....

A lot of the comments would not actually be deal breakers, but more along the lines of I'm not going to even look at making a deal. A deal breaker would be more along the line of presenting something as one thing, and finding that it is nothing like the presentation. To me; If a guitar required major remedial work and the price did not reflect that, then no deal. Of course if the instrument is pristine and I do not like it when I play it, then I shall walk away, too.

I'm not the one that posted that, but I find the older 16:1 Grover 102 series to be heavy, have backlash, and often be quite stiff (stiffness varies from tuner to tuner). I've only had them on electrics, but they get replaced, usually with Hipshots. My Tak has Grover knock-offs (Ping?) that work better than 102s, so I've left them on.

I dont like Rotomatics on everything but I like the ones on my Guild guitars. They work well with that headstock. I dont like them on a Martin headstock.

I like understated elegance. I don't like flamboyant or exotic wood grain.

I don't like drednaughts.

. . . the real reason I contribute?

Nobody mentioned, "Wings" yet!

If it sounds good, fits me well and looks like a quality example of whatever it is, I can love or ignore anything else about it. I don't like through-saddle bridges, but I own five of 'em and they're most of my favorite guitars. Don't like skinny necks, but the '68 ES335 is totally playable and sounds amazing. Don't normally use electronics, but three of my Gibsons came with them and they sound great acoustically--plus it can come in handy. Etc. Rules, especially self-imposed ones, are made to be broken.

My goodness; what a bunch of 'picky' players... (no pun intended!)

For me, a deal breaker is a price that I know I can't afford without selling my car...

The only deal-breaker for me, aside from poor tone or condition or inferior build quality, would be barn-door electronics. Because no one would ever consider installing barn-door electronics in the guitars that would interest me, it's really not an issue.

I am not indifferent to some of the features identified by others as deal- breakers. For example, none of my guitars feature much ornamentation. My Martin 00-18 is about as fancy as my guitars get, with little snowflake inlays on the fretboard and a discreet abalone rosette. And I don't care for the look of a cutaway on a traditional (i.e. Martin-style) dreadnought. But I also find it helpful to have a guitar with a cutaway when playing up to the 15th and 16th frets. Lately, my Avalon, with a cutaway, has been getting quite a bit of use. (I also think that it is a nice looking guitar, cutaway included.)
