Default Santa Cruz strings...

OK. So...what's up with the 'new' Santa Cruz strings? Anyone know?

I'm putting on a set right now - I'll let you know.

First thing I note is that the string packages are mislabled:
6th E
5th B
4th G
3rd D
2nd A
1st E

Darn - did I buy the left handed strings?

PS - while tightening the strings, the ball end of the high e snapped off - Luckily, i ordered two sets - will e-mail SCG for a replacement. First impression (at five minutes) they have a very nice resonance and 'jangle' - not unlike a Thomastik - Infeld string - more to come - it's only been five - no wait - six minutes.

The strings are very evenly tensioned - they feel good and have a nice 'bounce' (which I prefer).
They feel smooth - a little smoother than the Elixir Nano
So far, they are a great match for the Bourgeois OO.
30 minutes in...
More to come tomorrow.

I beta tested them since earlier this year. All I can say is folks should try them. They're that good.

I have NO doubt they are well researched and manufactured strings. Richard Hoover is not going to market anything else under the Santa Cruz name. But, either the street price is going to have to come down significantly, or they are going to have to be more than good before I spring for a set. I get my J. Pearse strings for under $6.00 a set, so they will theoretically have to be 3 times better, and I really wonder if my audience will even notice. Maybe if I were going into the studio, but I am not even sure that would do it for me.

You certainly can choose not to purchase them. Yes, they are relatively expensive, and I was a bit surprised at the price (they were only $17 a set when first realeased). Perhaps a discount can be had with a multiple set purchase. Perhaps not. Regardless, I have used these strings for several months, and you haven't. All I can say is they are quite nice. Whether they are worth the price is a personal choice.

I have light tension sets on my SC OM/PW and my Rockbridge Slope. About a week for the SC and two weeks for the RB. They sound and play amazing on both. Worth the price to me.

I suppose I'm missing something, but I don't see any string gauges listed on the Santa Cruz strings?

That's part of the point. "Gauge means nothing, tension means everything" at the top of the page.

I'm a huge scgc fan but those strings are way to expensive IMO! I'm scared to try them just for fear of an expensive new habit. I love a fresh set of string so much that I change them about once a week. I usually look for good buys on bulk strings to afford my habit.
