Most any Goodall I've ever picked up (as far as finger picking is concerned) For a dreadnought, my friends 1966 Martin D35. Also, I've heard some great old D18s.

There are soooo many great guitars being made now. I think Taylor makes a very fine guitar too. I play my 714 almost as much as my Goodall but I'm sure I have the finest 714 ever made....

I just heard one of the Martin Hank Williams D-28s and man--that was one heck of a flattop!

Heard a Collings slope shoulder 12 fret dread at Gruhn's a few years back that put every other guitar in the store to shame.

So many guitars, so little money!

I've been to McCabes in Santa Monica...great place, my Goodall came from there.

So far it's the 12 string neck of my Alvarez. It is ummm orchestrial. It just plain sounds huge if at times a bit muddy. The 655 I played at buffalo bro. is probably very close to sounding as good but it is a different sound. More focus of individual strings so less muddy but still has that bigness. I'm hoping (pretty sure really) that the 655 that should be coming any day will sound the same. I think that the Alvarez will sound better mostly because it has had 25 years or so to open up plus it is rosewood verses the maple on the 655. But the 655 will be a much better sounding guitar in the situation I'll be using it in (Worship team) because the tighter focus of the maple will let it cut through the rest of the band. So I think I have a good chance to end up with the two best sounding acoustics I've ever played.

life is good

Default ESTEBAN!

I think it's safe to say I've played, owned, and heard more guitars than most anyone here, and there is only one which really stood out, the Esteban Amber Ice Jumbo.

Not only is it superior in tone, but it's also got rhinestones adorning the top and back, which is difficult to find. Nearly impossible, actually. Why on earth do most manufacturers neglect elegant appointments like that? That's what initially attracted me to this magical instrument, how classy it was. There was another one which I considered also, which had multicolored gems on the headstock, but after playing them both, the Esteban was the clear winner.

Sometimes when I am performing with my beloved Esteban, I notice other guitar players will point and laugh. How gratifying is THAT?? My playing, combined with this peerless guitar, brings them such sonic joy they laugh with glee. Now that...is the sign of a master instrument.

Is it any wonder that nearly all of the six Amazon reviews for this guitar gave it 5 stars?

(it also came with instructional DVD's.That's rare too)

My Lowden F-35 Redwood/Koa by far, better than my '67 Martin D-28 which I still play and better than my other high end luthier built masterpieces. Just something about the tone, depth and clarity of each string no matter where its played.

I havent heard my best one yet... ! Well... Six strings anyway.

I would say my Guild Westerly JF65 12 does the signature tone from that series perfectly like it was heard on some famous songs. I have no complaints on that one because it has "The Sound" I was buying for that model... got lucky with a good un because I bought it mail order from afar... Happened to be a great specimen... But I dont think it is a wise practise to buy guitars without hearing them first.

(I have complaints with every 6 string guitar I have ever tried thus far... Lol.. I have tried only about 50 to 70 guitars hanging in the acoustics rooms at music stores)... There was a great Collings at one store but wayy out of my budget range.

Honorable mention however to a friends Gibson Hummingbird. Nice silky smooth top and tight enough bass iirc and a neighbours breedlove and ... Errr... his 400 buck Washburn that was surprisingly amazing esp for the price.

I believe brand is irrelevant... Comes down to the specific guitar.
