Thanks! That number would be late 1967.

I'm still looking for serial numbers and date codes. I'm up to over 350.

I've found date codes in all of my Yamaha's except for the 2 Red label Taiwan models. But they are in the Tan & Black label Taiwan models, although the year numbers are different due being referenced to a different countries Emperor.

Figuring out the Taiwan labels is going well. The shorter Tan label with only the model number (no reference to Taiwan) seems to have only been used for 2, maybe 3, months. It's very rare.

I've written a detailed article and am waiting for a friend to read it thru.

Default More info

In addition to my first posting I also have the following:

FG340 708???35 Neck block 1070315 Tuning fork TR cover

FG312 80701636 1343412 Tuning fork TR cover

FG335ii 208050094 No number Interior side

Any idea of the manufacturing dates of the 12 string? I think the 340 is probably 1978 and the 335ii 1982? Is that a good guess/

Thank for your efforts, we appreciate it tremendously!!!

Thanks! For the 8 digit numbers it's always YMMDDUUU. The year, 2 digit Month, 2 digit Day, and unit number.

So the FG340 is August ??, 1977, the FG-312 July 1, 1978, and the FG335ii is August 5, 1982.

Can you take a pic of the FG-340 number? Sometimes the numbers can be clearer when you take a pic with the right lighting.

Now that I'm putting the numbers in my list, could the FG-340 start with 706? I don't have a lot in that area but a 708 8 digit serial number should have a 114 7 digit serial number. I don't have another 706 pair, but a 704 8 digit is paired with a 1059xxx.

I'm blind. I just noticed you listed a 9 digit serial number for the FG-335ii. There's probably an extra digit in there.

Default Yamaha Numbers

Tried to get a pic but didn't come out well, will try tomorrow using sunlight.

By the way that 335ii has the number 12 on the side inside.

Thanks for the other info...

Default Vintage number corrections

Checked the serial number on the FG312 in the sunlight and it looks like
70324095...subject to change! :-)

You're right on the 335ii, should read 20903009. There maybe a small star at the end or else it's a smudge...

Hope all this info helps others trying to date their instruments. And nice of you to take on this task...

CT, with the Yamaha archive now gone, you may be the only person who can shed some light on the latest Yamaha I'm working on. It's a 3/4 size classical made in Taiwan. The model is a G-40. The number on the support is 30905194. The number on the neck block is 0352702.

I can't find any information on the Internet about this model.

This model is unique in the fact that it is a classical, but it has a 1 3/4 nut. Also, the slotted headstock has the same shape used on some of Yamaha's FG 12 strings.

You probably don't need a lot of people thinking your the "new" Yamaha archive, but this one has me stumped. Thanks!

No problem! That one was made 9/5/1973.

The G40 is the lowest model number in the G series. It was made 1972 to 1974, MSRP $65, Top spruce, Back/Sides Katsura, Neck nato, Fingerboard Rosewood, 3/4 scale.

Not exactly sure what you are looking for, but I have a F-160 with a tan label that says made in Taiwan Republic of China. I bought it new in 1975 for $160.00 I believe....my first playable guitar....

For the tan label Taiwan models I'm looking for serial numbers to find when they changed from one version label to another. They used 3 different tan labels. There's an 8 digit serial number on the brace under the fretboard, just inside the sound hole. There's a 7 digit serial number on the neck block below.

I'd like to thank anyone who's donated their serial numbers and/or date codes. Without them this project is meaningless. In nearly 8 months I've found over 500 serial numbers and 80 date codes. Keep them coming!!

Default Serial number help?!

Can someone please help me with this serial number. It looks to he around 1970 but I am unsure. I got this from a luther out of Nashville and it sounds amazing. He included a pick up with it and original case. Looks to have a new pick guard too which is pretty. How much do the FG 140s go for like this with a pick up?

It is a red label in very good condition. Not sure how to post pictures yet. I am new to the forum.

Serial number 11120468

Hi folks - Can anybody help me read this serial number? I've already changed my mind three times about which digits I'm seeing. I am seeing 9 digits in total, and earlier in this thread, it seems these guitars should have an 8 digit serial number, so I must be seeing it wrong.

The 4th digit is hard to read. Maybe it is a blank space, allowing for 8 total digits when dropping that one. Is that typical?

Either way, it seems I can conclude the guitar is from 1982.

The guitar is an FG-335ii, made in Taiwan
