Default Poll: A Dream Guitar - which trim would be your ideal

Just for fun and thinking about standard Martin trim sets. If you could obtain a "perfect" guitar, (not about sizes ....yet) what trim level would be your ideal. I.e. I'm wondering whether most would go for plain or fancy etc.

BTW this might come out wrong because I've never done a "poll before.

Note: I'm not talking about woods, or sunbursts or models, just trim. If this proves of interest, I might do other polls - again, no point - just for fun.

1. Trim 18/21
2. Trim 28
3. Trim 35
4. Trim 41
5 Trim 42
6 Trim 45
7. Trim totally customised.

I like the design of the Martin HD-28.

Therefore, my vote.

In my dream I'm not paying for it. So as I have plain already is one will be fancy.

I would go with a 40. Enough inlay to be interesting but not so much that it gets overblown.

I went with Custom but plain. Based on 18/21, no fretboard binding (hate it), but perhaps a different, simple rosette or backstrip.

Default Trim

When I voted it was 40% custom but plain. I guess I'm a little surprised.

My preference would be wood trim and minimal inlay anyway.

I voted custom/fancy. My 'ideal' guitar would be fancy yet tasteful. I like abalone inlays and purfling. I hate fretboard dots, but a little sparkle of abalone at the 12th looks good. I dislike plastic binding, but can live with ivoroid - although a contrasting hardwood is my ideal. Definitely no pickguard. Probably a slotted headstock, too.

Just give me plain and make the binding curly maple or koa. A blank fretboard is okay too.

I don't like binding on the neck but do like inlays in the headstock and tasteful fret markers.

I think it would depend on the style of guitar (e.g., jumbo vs. OM vs parlor, etc). I've seen both some plain ones and some fancy ones that I have loved. On some guitars plain looks right while on others, a bit of bling just suits the guitar. An SJ-200, for example is meant to have all that bling while some of the guitars based on depression-era models look best to me when they're plain.

Style 42 on an OM is as good as it gets for me.

Me too! Herringbone's awesome and so are rosewood back & sides. Other than that, a D-21 because I prefer black binding over the D-28's white.

Not a very blingy kinda guy so I'd want simple and understated. And sunburst. Dark tobacco sunburst.
