Here is the florentine cutaway mock up that I drew. I started with the standard florentine design but felt it didn't work with my body shape so I brought in the outer(body) curve and that ended up working very well.

Today I got the back all glued up. I'm really loving this set and the Ebony binding I'll use will frame this beautifully.

I just checked out your website, some really nice work. I really like that acoustic that is in the case you are standing next to, particularly, the headstock shape; it's nice to see something like that that is less traditional on an acoustic.

Thank you Jeff! That was the second acoustic guitar that I ever made ha! I built that during my second year working for the Santa Cruz Guitar Company. At that time I was heavily influenced by the work of Fred Carlson. Check him out if you get a chance. Those photos were taken during the Santa Cruz Art of Guitar festival that took place in 2014. Here are a few photos during that time. I'd like to revisit this style of guitar if one was so inclined to order one.

The first time we met at SCGC that guitar was getting done. I knew immediately what the influence was. Maybe it's time to build a Dreadnautilus.

Does this sound much different from say a dreadnought?

I really love Stephen's work -- always rendering a beautifully modern and sophisticated aesthetic. The fit and finish is top tier and his instruments sound magnificent. I also second his suggestion to check out the work of Fred Carlson -- his creativity is astounding.

The sound is similar with the tonal spectrum being shifted towards the bass and it has scalloped bracing which helps. Compared to what I'm currently making it doesn't come close sound wise so some design work would be needed to truly realize the instruments potential.

Right back atcha Simon! Seeing your guitars for the first time in Memphis last year was an absolute pleasure and I hope we will cross paths again. Fred's work blew my mind open to what the possibilities were and I revisit his work periodically when I feel I need a jolt.

Beautiful work, as always, Stephen.

A very dear friend of mine (Craig Green of Idaho Falls) has a Carlson "Dreadnautilus" A/E guitar...quite a cool instrument, and perfect for the style he plays.

Beautiful set of woods on this one, Stephen--looking forward to seeing it come together.

Thank you Larry! I actually studied with Fred for almost a year while I worked for SCGC. He is a magical human I say!
