Default Another song written with one of my favorite songwriters

This was the very first song I ever wrote, with a friend of mine who's written songs for people who only need one name like Dolly, Reba, Wynonna, etc. The idea was mine, but he wrote the first verse for me. Before we got back together to work on it, I somehow managed to finish the entire song. He then made some changes and played it (I was unable to play and sing at the same time back then). I now have made a work tape for it, since it'll be on my new project that I'm recording in Nashville next month.

“What She Can't Forget” (David Pennybaker / Austin Cunningham)

It was freezin’ this mornin’ / When I opened my eyes
Her side of the mattress / Was colder than ice
My hangover is still hangin’ / So I'm not quite sure yet
Wish I could remember / What she can't forget

Why can't she just tell me? / It’d be easy that way
Why must I keep guessin’ / At what she won't say?
If I don’t know what I did / How can I feel regret?
Wish I could remember / What she can't forget

I get up every mornin’ / And get myself fed
With one naggin’ question / Still stuck in my head
What could I have done? / She’s still so upset
Wish I could remember / What she can't forget

Why can't she just tell me? / It’d be easy that way
Why must I keep guessin’ / At what she won't say?
If I don’t know what I did / How can I feel regret?
Wish I could remember / What she can't forget

Whatever it was / I didn't mean to do her wrong
But I’m getting the feelin’ / She’s about to say “so long”

Why can't she just tell me? / It’d be easy that way
Why must I keep guessin’ / At what she won't say?
If I don’t know what I did / How can I feel regret?
Wish I could remember / What she can't forget

Wish I could remember / What she can't forget

Thanks!

The original line I had was "I can't remember what she can't forget".

I had said "I can't remember what you can't forget" to my wife once (in a hotel room, while taking care of her mom's stuff after her passing).

When I went to write it with Austin Cunningham, he suggested changing it to "Wish I could remember what she can't forget". Brilliant!
