Default Imperial BRW with landscaping or other for a 00 12 fret? Max Rosa's 00 build thread.

Hi there!
After more than one year waiting.
My comissioned guitar build is finally moving forward.
Though decisions to be made.
This one is from last year:

Now I have to choose between these 2 sets...
According to him this one is most "internationally accepted", with the pronounced glass like quality and he only has a few of these sets available:

This one would be less intense with a softer/warmer sound and the set is "more common" (at least here in Brazil). But look at this gorgeous landscaping:

I mostly fingerpick with alternating base in standard and open tunings...
Not sure how much the potencial tonal qualities of these sets would influence in the final product. If at all.

Don’t know how much effect but that second set is drop dead gorgeous.

All other things being equal, I'd go for the landscape--beautiful set of wood!

Smile 12 fret

A couple of the photos look like dreadnaughts. Am I missing something?
I am building my 1st guitar, and am trying to emulate a Martin 00-28vs.
I have always loved the twelve fret and cannot play anything smaller than 1 7/8” at the nut. I have been a professional carpenter/cabinetmaker for almost 50 years, so I think I’ll be alright. Been doing research and have found You-tube to be a God-send. Will be following your progress...

What you are calling landscaping is just flatsawn figure. Mind you I prefer the second set too. Also, neither set is what I have learned to call “imperial”. Which set are you putting that label on? I think of imperial as nearly black, even w/o finish.

I concur with Bruce in that neither set is not landscape figuring but merely rift sawn rolling off quickly to flat sawn

Poor naming on my part.

For me it resembles a landscape with the straight lines with different colors. Even without the spiderwebbing.
I've seen some froggies with this kind of pattern, glad I'll have a guitar with the same pattern for much less.

There was a pretty black set available, but I've found it kinda unappealing.
Most Luthiers in my country call BRW with this kind of pattern/color and darker "imperial" (the second one).

He had Ziricote too... Which I think have some of the most beautiful patterns. But all the reports on how sensitive to humidity (poor tone outside optimum) made me go for BRW instead.

Actually... 3+ years ago I wanted a simple 00 with hog back and sides. But I've bought a hog L-00 and having played it for 2 years I think It can sound harsh or lacking something some times.
After hearing how mellow/dense/woody some old BRW 00s sounded and thinking that my favorite recordings were done with old BRW guitars. I took the leap. Hoping it was a good choice. Like the L-00 on steroids or something like that.

Should be able to tell if it sounds mellow/dense/woody in no time.

Almost ready to be shipped my way!
Just one final decision.
With or without pickguard?

I prefer without... Usualy... But this one doesn't look bad as I thought and seems to cover the nail/fingerpick area pretty well.
