Talking NUD - 2014 John S. Kinnard Style 3 Concert

It's just over a year since I began my ukulele journey. I have sampled over a dozen ukes from soprano to pineapple to baritone. There are so many great builders and instruments out there. No way to own one of each. Just going to have to be satisfied going to jams and trying other folks special instruments.

I have found I am smitten with the signature tone and detail work on a John S. Kinnard ukulele. So much so that I commissioned two of them. A tenor that I received back in Nov 2013 and a concert that was documented in the build thread here.

JMHO but I think my JSKs are the best of those I have sampled. There are ukuleles that will come and go. And then there are some which stay for a lifetime. My JSKs fall in the keeper category.

That ukulele looks like a lifetime keeper. You can settle in for a very long with no need to look for another. Well done!

Cigarfan - Can I ask for just a ballpark figure (no need to be exact, since there are a lot of facotrs in a custom instrument) on what such a nice uke would cost? As I mentioned in another thread, mine was priced at $4500 and is clearly a custom instrument. I got it as a trade with no cash changing hands and am grateful for that, but I have absolutely no idea what the range for ukes is and what the pricing is for these that are equivalent to a high end custom guitar. I am just curious, rather than planning a purchase.

Thanks,

Tony

@tbeltrans

KinnardUkes pricing is on the web here. Mine is a Series 3 with the abalone upgrade which is around $450, otherwise, standard Series 3 pricing.

Well, just because you are on a diet doesn't mean you can't read the menu!

Thanks. At work, his site is blocked. I will look when I get home. You are correct about the menu, but I would have never thought of owning a uke in the first place, so I am still addjusting to having just one and am grateful to have such a nice one as my first. Yours is absolutely gorgeous and I am sure the sound and playability is equally as good. You can see pics of mine in the other recent NUD thread here.

That is one gorgeous uke! Congrats on the acquisition of a "keeper" you'll cherish...
