What guitars have you played in the last 24 hours? (Part II)
What guitars have you played over the past day, and why?
(Here's my reply from the original thread): About three weeks ago I traded for a LoPrinzi AR-38 (square-shouldered rosewood dreadnought), and it has basically monopolized my playing time since I got it. It is rich and warm with overtones as one would expect from a rosewood dread, but it is also wonderfully balanced and articulate. Best of all, it "plays well" with my singing voice.

My Angus F-40, tuned to a "new" tuning that I recently thought up; (low to high) E, A, C#, F#, A, E. Still new to me and I'm learning more and more about it every time I fiddle with the guitar in this tuning. At first I called it an Amaj6 tuning, but a friend of mine remarked yesterday that it could also be viewed as a sort of Esus6/9 tuning, as well.
One interesting aspect of this tuning is that, when I put the guitar in another player's hands, they immediately come up with sounds and chord shapes that I had yet to discover! The other is my Goodall Grand Concert. It has been restrung with John Pearse phosphor bronze strings (going on 10 weeks now) and I've really been enjoying the different tone and coloration to the sound from the JP strings; prior to these strings, I have primarily used Elixir Nanoweb phosphor bronze strings on that guitar. While I like the ;elixirs, there is no denying that the pearse strings are louder and reveal much more nuance in tone. I'll be leaving town for 10 days, and the Goodall isn't going with me, so I've been "soaking it up" as much as I can prior to my departure. The 3rd guitar that has been played in the past 24 hours is my Gibson ES-345 (heavly modded); recently, I had my mid-70's Deluxe Reverb re-tubed and dialed in, so I've really enjoyed playing through it. A couple weeks ago, I parted ways with my Taylor T-5, so I'm down to one "normal" electric guitar. I still have my ES-175, but to me, it is more of a "one trick pony", not an all-arounder... There you have it! Who knows what today may bring?!!!

Bourgeois LDBO Presentation #4, the reason being is that it has the best balance, tone and overall response of any guitar own. Plus it's kinda purdy to look at!

Martin 000-18. J45 TV. Two different, recent, strat builds. PRS rosewood neck McCarty. Deering banjitar.
Why? Well the Martin has short scale and huge sweet spot for tone. (You can play mistakes and get away with them easier). I love the Lifespans on this guitar. The Gibby is just so easy to play and I can dig in if needed. It has tons of dynamic range and sweet tone with interesting lows. The Vega Deering Banjitar has really opened up my mind after the last few years of chasing down Goodall piano type sustain. I love the short bold notes. Hard to play smoothly yet rewarding on this fine summer weekend. The electrics are just something I've played for over 50 years. I reckon I have been averaging 3 or 4 hours a day this summer? The new picks in my life greatly aiding this momentum. Last edited by tippy5; 08-12-2017 at 12:49 PM. |

E-i-O,
In order, Gibson J200 CEL Taylor 818e Taylor 512ce L10 Taylor 412e-R Big part of the why is that I happened to play them in pairs to compare sounds with roughly the same material within each pair. Object was just judging which guitar sounds best for a given piece. Not actually something I do a lot, but you asked after an interesting day. Usually I just play 1 or 2 guitars per day. Don

Seagull S6 - my one and only. Also my 1954 Grotrian-Steinweg piano but that doesn't count of course...
Why? I only have one guitar so this is it. Happen to like it as well |

I've been going back and forth all day between a Huss & Dalton Custom TOM-M and a Martin CS-00-21. Very different, but both are so satisfying to play.

I played my Froggy K this morning and Froggy H12 this afternoon. Why? I've been traveling and haven't had much playing time so I was just in the mood to hear these sing. Add my SCGC H13 this evening. Easy to play during tv commercials.

J45
My Gibson J45 standard which I came across by accident in my local guitar store when I was trying out a J15 which i figured was more in my price range.
Its second hand by a year cant believe anyone would trade it in. Beautiful rich tone and plays like a dream. My other three guitars are lying idle so I think I will sell two and keep one as a spare.
