Default Gain or Master Volume ?

Forgive me for asking a relatively stupid question, but I have rarely paid attention toy electronics . I have a K&K Pure Mini in a '57 Gibson J-50, and I play plugged in to a Fender Acoustisonic amp. All tone controls are set to 1, nd I do not use a DI box. Do I maximize the Gain, and then dial in the Master Volume? Or the other way around? With the Gain up first I tend to stroll into "boom" territory.

Not stupid at all. Maximize the Gain, and then dial in the Master Volume... then EQ.

Maury has it right... do yourself a favor and google "gain staging" sometime... you'll not have to wonder how to set up a signal chain again...
