Default Repairing A Body Crack: Glue or Cleat?

Just bought a 23 year Ted Thompson T2C with a 4" body crack below the bridge. There's no separation but in the middle of the crack one side is a hair’s width above the other. I doubt the crack has a cleat underneath. My guitar tech said he'd glue it but every crack repair I've seen has a cleat or two underneath. Any thoughts out there?

1. Is it really a crack in the wood? Can you see it on the inside?
2. If it's a crack in the wood I think a cleat is in order since the edges are slightly out of alignment. See if you can push the high side down so the edges align.

I have a D-35 that was rehabbed at the Martin factory. It has 2 top cracks, one large, one very small, both are glued and not cleated.

The guitar sounds like a million bucks!
