Cordoba C9/10/12
I'm learning Spanish classical with a LaPatrie Etude. Great guitar I got for $200 used but am wanting to move up a bit. I see some pretty good deals on ebay on Cordoba C9/10 & 12s. Is there that much of a difference between the models? I'd like to try a Spruce top, the Etude is cedar. I'm not necessarily locked into Cordoba but am looking in the $500-$1000 used range. Missed out locally on a Kenny Hill New World and Kremona Romida and I'm open to suggestions on other brands/models I should consider. Thanks.

I don't know about C9 v C10, but I did find the jump from C7 (laminate b/s) to C9 was both considerable and consistent: every C9 I tried was superior to every C7.
I found the Cordobas to sound significantly better than the Kremonas I tried in the same price range. These are very nice guitars.

are the Cordoba C10 (Solid Woods) and the Kremona Fiesta FS (Solid Woods) They both are very very good guitars and the sound is basically the same and it depends on what strings you use. The only major difference is that the Cordoba C10 has a truss rod and the Kremona Fiesta does not. I just changed my C10 for a Kremona Fiesta FC because it is lighter and I liked the quality of the tunning machines better. I am very happy with the Kremona. Cordoba is 1059.00 and Kremona is 999.00. These are the only ones I would consider in this price range. You could try and get a used guitar on e-bay but you won't know what you are getting and I like my guitars new. Good luck and regards Norman2 PS I do not like truss rods on a classical guitar. The expensive ones do not have them. They make the neck heavier. Last edited by Norman2; 11-14-2015 at 05:54 PM. |

Better to buy used
I've been unimpressed with new classicals in the $900-$1200 price range. With any guitar, you have to play it to see if you like it, so you may as well buy a good used one.
Most dealers have a return policy, so take the used guitar to someone who knows guitars and have it evaluated. I'd rather buy a guitar that new was, say, $4000 and has some scratches and dings that brings the price to $1500 than buy a new $1500 guitar and put the first scratch on it. <g> Keep in mind there isn't necessary a relationship between price and quality, so a $4000 guitar is no guarantee that it will be better. But a good $4K guitar, used, might be a better value.

Thank you for the rapid responses. I'm definitely in the market for used to stretch my retirement bucks. It seems my choices seems to be on track. There are so few used coming into the market locally is why I was turning to ebay. I'll just bide my time and keep a weather eye out on Craigslist and GC to see what shows up.............Jack.

list. You can have few problems with used guitars. First you have to be familiar with what brands are the ones you want and then you must be sure of the condition of the instrument. I went through what you are doing, and after many months of problems i decided on a new one. Hell, I have never owned a used car. LOL Good Luck and do not give up until you get something you are happy with. Keep us posted. Regards Norman PS. We are just giving advice. Get a Guitar that you like. That is the important part!! And I do not like guitars made in China, They are just OK when compared to ones made in Spain or Europe. A personal preference. Last edited by Glennwillow; 12-11-2015 at 03:04 PM. Cordoba C9/10/12
I have a Cordoba C9 parlor (7/8 size) that I bought to study classical last year. I decided I am no classical player and so the guitar is practically new. It's gorgeous sounding but looking for new home. Send me pm if interested.
