Congratulations. I'm coming up on my 4 year anniversary. I quit September 1 2013. It's the best thing Ive ever done for myself. I can't stand the smell of it now. Alas I can breathe, taste, and smell. What was I thinking!

That is roughly 6,500 packs or 130,000 cigarettes that I have not smoked.
Sometimes they still smell good, when someone else first lights up.
Sometimes I still want one.
Always said that if I ever get terminal anything, the first thing is a bottle and a pack of Marlboro Reds.
But for today I am still cigarette free!
Congrats. I used to smoke also, then went to cigars (cheap ones). Finally quit. It took a few tries, got hypnotized once (lasted 5 years that time). I still like the quick hit you get when someone lights up nearby,

Congratulations! I guess this summer marks 26 years without cigarettes for me. I used to burn two packs a day but I quit because I was sick of them and they cost me $5 a day. I can't even imagine spending $10 a pack like smokers do now, here in CT....and looking back, I wonder why I ever thought it was a good idea to smoke them at all. Every once in a while I'll catch a whiff when a friend lights one up, and it will tug on my urges a little, but not enough to actually try another one of those nasty things.

Congratulations! I probably wouldn't be alive had I not stopped 4 decades ago.

Forty five years smoking and enjoyed it. I quit 6 months ago cold turkey with Chantix. Best thing I ever did and won't be going back.

Interesting that the hardest time was three months in. That was not fun! Now I just get an occasional temptation but nothing that doesn't pass in a few minutes.

It seems odd to celebrate something that is legal but more addictive then heroin. I am coming up to 14 years this January 3. Quitting something I liked but was killing me was the hardest single thing I've ever done and I will celebrate every extra year I've got from it.

Congrats on 13

6 years here but not by disciplined abstinence. One day I snuffed the last one in the box, meant to pick up another pack on the way home but didn't. That's the long version.

Mmmm about 25 years here , but I still love the smell of second-hand smoke in the morning. Can't remember the last time I got any, though . I went to rehab for drugs and alcohol in '88 . but they let us smoke there, and provided us with as much sugar water as we could drink . Quitting tobacco is a 10/10 on the scale of difficulty to give up , so "way to go" to anyone successful

Happy for you Riverwolf. I'm 32+ years being smokeless after a 3 pack a day habit. I remember getting cigarettes for $1.35 a carton in the Army Class VI store in Germany. Can't imagine the cost today.

I remember those days well!

I was a one pack p/day smoker so in 1976 that was a buck every three days. Where I live a pack of smokes is just over $7, or $21 for that same three day period. OR:

1976 - $127 p/YEAR
2017 - $2,555 p/YEAR CRAZY!

Congratulations! This October will mark 30 years since I quit a 20 year habit that was up to three packs a day. One of the best things I ever did and I can no longer stand the smell of cigarette smoke.
