I am so very excited to hear Ray's guitar again after it has had more time to open up. I can't really imagine the guitar sounding better, but I know after a few more months of playing it will. If it sounds like a grand piano now, will it sound like a pipe organ by then? LOL!

Question

I am totally naive on Healdsburg, i do know its a big show for luthiers, so the average person can go in? Are there certain days for the public? What is the admission cost? and the date of the event?

Is this similar to the NAMM show in Nashville?

The wife and i really need to plan a visit.

thanks
daryl

Default Healdsburg

My wife, Gail & I will be there again. This will be our 4th festival in a row as exhibitors and we look forward to it every time. Please stop by our table and say hello.

It is open to the public, and the fee to get in is nominal! One of the best chances you will ever find to play the different luthiers guitars at one time and compare them. Plus mini concerts and workshops to attend. It is a guitar nerds dream!

The Healdsburg event (and the Montreal Guitar Show) is specifically open to the public, so that builders from all over North America (and beyond) can showcase their instruments to players and appreciators...

...so it's not just "open to the public", it's *designed* for the public to come and experience the fine handcrafted guitars.

I'll be there--my fourth time as an exhibitor. Planning on bringing a Falcon, a Siren, a Zephyr, and a Consort. Good times! -Steve, the Edwinson

Also, my best friend and shop partner, Aaron Andrews, will be exhibiting three or four of his extraordinary new Eclipse and Aurora archtops--not to be missed! Check out Aaron's website at

I hope not. In all seriousness this years Healdsburg is going to be absolutely amazing if you are going to pick a year to go this is it.

What makes it different from NAMM? the people, the Place, but more than that it is the Goal of the show which is to provide a place for some custom makers to get there guitars out there and for the people that play them to get first hand experience with them , to here them in concert, to play them, and then the workshops which are for players to become better players at. Think guitar Paradise. Or if your wife won't let you to get any new guitars guitar hell for sure. ( if such is the case you had better stay out of the custom shop part of this forum as well

I've had my hotel room reservation since the beginning of January ... and I'm getting impatient. I went in 2009 and it was so much fun ... I kept forgetting to take pictures ... all I wanted to do was play the guitars!

I'll be there, been to all of them so this will be my 9th show (10th if you count the infamous "San Rafael" show)

What is Healdsburg???

Imagine 100 of the top builders in the world all converging in one building once every 2 years, each bringing along 3-5 of their best guitars, so.... 300-500 handmade guitars, many available for immediate purchase and most available for one-on -one sampling either at the luthiers table or in a private area (this year many luthiers will have rooms at the hotel for clients to experience guitars in a completely quiet setting) Definitely NOT NAMM!!! Every half hour a different luthier will host a demo concert where an artist of their choosing will play a selected guitar (or guitars) probably just one or two of these mini concerts is worth the cost of admission to the festival.

Just to give you an idea, it's a bit of a lottery to become an exhibitor because the demand far out reaches the facility.

Too rich for my budget, especially in these hard times. See you next year at Woodstock, though.

I will most likely be there. Can't wait to see this year's offerings.
