Early 60's Martin Recording
I had a friend stop by this weekend and he brought his early 60's 000-18 with him. I had to give it a go for a quick recording. It's just such a wonderfully natural instrument. Not too much top, not too much low end. Earthy.
I stuck the thing in front of a mic and knocked out two tracks without ever getting up from my seat. I didn't re-adjust the mic and didn't touch the mic pre or software. The recording has no eq and no compression. There is a Lexicon room reverb on the lead-ish track and I bumped levels 8dB on the way out but other than that bone dry. I do realize there's a little build up at 250 but for sake of the track I left it. What I'd give for a git that records so effortlessly. https://soundcloud.com/joseph-hanna/martin-000-18 |

I don't know if it's the guitar or if it's your playing, but in my mind that is how a Martin should sound.
Very nice! |

Yes. Both tracks were the 000-18. No eq adjustments, no track level adjustments. As mentioned a minuscule Lex room reverb on the solo track and boosted output of the master 8dB. Other than that what went in, came out. I do tend to angle the mic a 1/4 inch more towards the sound hole when doing single line stuff just so I can get a little more dynamic range out of solo notes, if you’re hearing a difference that might be it?
