Nice tips, haven’t tried with car battery acid yet! I have tried with a vinegar and steel wool mix, the wood turned green... it was ugly! I have tried with potassium permanganate too, the same green came out... I will try it next time! |

Looks great!
To be fair, having not come across it often, when I read the thread title I expected black locust to be dark! I like it though, its something I'll have to keep an eye out for future builds especially if its as good as the others in this thread are saying. David |

Consider Osage Orange - very similar in working characteristics and appearance, and tones down to a similar color:
Here is a series of shots, and the last one shows it after about 2 years: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ruby16...7641029319394/ It has the name "poor man's Brazilian Rosewood", and it is very clear and ringing like BR Ed |

Yeah, I’m considering it! But I’m more into Ceylon satin wood for the look, just have to find the right lumber! But I will definitely try it one day! |

That is some stellar playing on a gorgeous looking and sounding guitar. Congrats. The new owner should be ecstatic!

Sounds real good. I managed to pick up three sets of Black Locust from our friend out west. They were seconds and nowhere near as nice as your set. I'm doing a cheap and dirty build with the most challenged set. It is a good thing you brought your thread back up. I will have to find some battery acid and see what it does to this stuff.
