Default Circa D-28

There may be a bigger fan of Circa guitars out there than me, but I doubt it. Here are some pics of my D-28. Old school - John Griffin Old Standard Wood "retirement grade" top, including his sound enhanced treatment developed in conjunction with Frank Sanns. Yes. It is an Adi top. John said on more than one occasion that it was the nicest top he had worked with -ever; traditional dovetail neck (not a normal John Slobod build technique. It took some persuasion); Brazilian back to match my OM; and carbon fiber truss rod in lieu of a traditional adjustable truss rod; Antique Acoustic pins; pbei nut and saddle. Absolutely a stunner.

Nice guitar and beautiful woods used!

BTW what is this sound enhancement treatment that you referred to? Are you referring to some kind of torrefaction process?

Point #1: that is a beautiful guitar

Point #2: I, too, am a Circa fan.

No. It is not torrefied. The soundboard underwent some sort of treatment by Frank Sanns. I believe Old Standard Wood still offers this treatment to their soundboards. By the way, John Griffin of Old Standard Wood is top notch.

Those are the nicest looking adi and Brazilian sets I've seen on a new guitar. Period. I hope it sounds as good as it looks!

Thumbs up

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I believe John builds the best dread out there. If Al Petteway says "maybe the best D-28 I've ever HEARD," that speaks volumes. Congratulations on a beautiful guitar from a fellow fan living the Slobodian dream!

Thanks for the nice comments, everyone. I've had this one for a little over a year. I'm just now getting around to getting pictures transferred between my laptop and photobucket.

John Slobod is an amazing luthier. Plain and simple.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is meant by "retirement grade"? Beautiful guitar BTW.

Absolutely spectacular looking guitar! I'm amazed at the silking and tight grain of that Adi top. That must be some really old growth stuff -- it looks like Sitka!

Great set of Brazilian too. Didn't know that Circa doesn't typically do dovetails, so thanks for that add'l info.

What is his wait list like these days...anyone know?

His wait list is 2-3 years at this point. It's been that way for a while. He does seem to produce a small number of spec guitars, however.

Good question, Doc. It's John Griffin's absolute best of the best adi that he has acquired over the years. To put it in perspective, he has around 200,000 sets of adi guitar tops. Out of those, he's selected around 2400 as "the best of the best". Perfect in every way, both cosmetically and tonally.
