Default Charis Acoustic 2014 Limited "The Tree" guitars

2014 Limited "The Tree"

We've been given the honor of building two very special guitars for a long time customer and his son. These guitars are being built with Mahogany from "The Tree" which many of you may be familiar with. This is some very special wood and we have a generous budget to work with as well. We'll keep you updated as we build these two guitars during the month of July. Here are the first few photos.

These two guitars have a special tag visible through the sound hole and we trimmed the back seam reinforcement with Brazilian Rosewood which will match the trim on the guitars.

The "Charis Acoustic" engraved on the top back brace will not be visible through the sound hole, but will be visible through the sound port!

Brazilian Rosewood Back Stripe with stops.

Bill, your work is always beautiful, and based on the info, these should be absolutely stunning!! I hope you'll get some video/audio clips of these before they head on to their lucky owners.

Can't wait for the seal to be applied and see those back and sides really pop!

I really like the extra attention and detail you put into the bracing. Just curious though why you didn't go for the fluted/trussed bracing on this one like in your previous signature series guitars? Are you discontinuing that design development?

The Luthier replies: "There is no real scientific reason for this. My mind is continually thinking about different ways to accomplish the same task. These could be fluted as well if I wanted."

The marketing department replies: "This design guarantees the greatest possible structural and tonal configuration for the species and density of this particular piece of bracewood."

Seriously, well said Bill. I was just curious about your latest thoughts on your trussed bracing design. I know you've been monitoring how well they have been holding up over time.

Beautiful as always! Could you fill us in on the significance of the names on the neck blocks? Will there be appointments reflective of those names? I am excited seeing these come together!
