I think I'm done with the rosette, but not 100% sure. I put in the inner maple and rosewood strips...
Then glued in rosewood/maple/rosewood for the radial soundhole binding... All cleaned up... My original design had two small circles on each side of the rosette, which I'm not quite sure if I want to put in. I did a quick mockup on one side and stuck it on with double-sided tape... Really not sure if I want to put them in or not, so I think I'll just wait for a couple of days and see what happens! Mike |

Looks absolutely amazing Mike!!!
By the way, if you want to hear a great guitarist playing a great tune on a GREAT guitar, check out Jonathan Kreisberg playing Skylark on his Indian Hill!

Mike, based on your mock up I think the circles would look really nice-
The maple already looks good! The specific curl and color is perfect for that design.

Being a fan of FLW, an architectural designer, and a guitar player, I've been watching this build thread with interest! Very cool back motif and rosette, and I'm with Burton--I think the circles would look great in the rosette. Thanks for posting the pics and doing this build thread--can't wait to see the final product. Anything motif related for the headstock and fingerboard extension?

I think I'm starting to lean towards adding the circles. I've been asking a lot of people and it's close to a split decision, but a little bit more on the side of putting them in.
I'll have a similar theme on the slotted headstock and end-graft and am considering something on the bridge and fingerboard as well. Might even show up in some other places I don't even know about yet! That's one of the things I love about this kind of project; I have a general idea about where I'm headed but really enjoy the unexpected twists and turns! Mike |

Now that I've got the basic design elements started, it's time to actually start building this thing! Sides are bent, laminated, and now joined. This is going to have a bolt-on elevated neck, hence the extension on the block. I also decided to stick two lengths of hardwood dowel through the block on either side of the mortise to help ensure a super sturdy and stable neck joint...
Typically when you look at a guitar from the side, the top is (more or less) parallel to the strings and the back angles up and is closest to the top at the heel. Since this will have an elevated neck, I do the reverse and have the top taper down towards the back. Once that taper is roughly set, I sand the top of the sides in a 25' bowl, glue in liners, and here we are... That's it for now, thanks for looking! Mike |

You are truly doing FLW proud with this design. Love the rosette (with the circles). Truly incredible so far. I'm glued to the TV set so to speak.

I think it looks lovely, very creative and original. I have checked out some of your youtube videos, and the guitars sound really great. I especially like the sound of the Mike O'Brien 00, keep up the good work! Dennis

Just fantastic. Being a new builder I spend alot of time looking thru the build posts on this site and I have to say that rosette, and back just blow me away. I only wish you had a tutorial video of the whole process so I could figure out how to do some of this great detail work.
Cann't wait to see what you come up for the headstock and fretboard. Stu
