Default A Mule for J.R. - Custom Resonator by Matt Eich

I think this might be our first resonator build on the AGF and I hope to update this with some detailed photos of the process. I've been talking with one of our sponsors - Matt Eich of Mule Resophonic Guitars - and decided to have a custom steel body guitar built. Matt has been working to perfect his resonator design and spent about two months with a piece of steel, working to perfect the patina. I think he's on to something... These instruments not only look beautifully vintage but they won't blind your audience!

Originally, I was hoping for a 14-fret model but decided to go with his standard 12-fret model because that's what his body shape is designed for. I opted for an ebony fretboard because I think it will look really good with the vintage patina on the guitar. I also opted for the optional slotted headstock.

Matt has promised some build photos along the way but here's some pics of the model to give you an idea of what this will look like when complete:

Not to hijack the thread, JR. but actually I did have an earlier "build" thread for a reso instrument-my EIR 000 Cutaway Tricone project. This is probably the first metal bodied build thread, however.

This will be great, I'm excited for everyone to see the process. It will be a bit before JR's begins, but I wanted to share what they are designed to do.

Oliver and I have made our pallets on the same floor, ridden 500 miles on bicycles while he tries not to die of a hernia (possible?), discussed long about whisky and football and I've watched in amazement at his musical awesome and am proud to call him a dear friend. I hesitate to say The Stray Birds are my favorite band of all time, because that's hyperbole and you may think I don't mean it. But I totally do. All I can say is when I listen to them live, they can actually turn my musical brain off and I can be free to love every part of what they do. John Calkin was kind enough to let me borrow his guitar for a bit longer so Oliver could play it. It sang so sweet in his hands, and will be one of my favorite memories.

That sounds really sweet, Matt. I went digging around in some of the other videos you posted, and found this one which I really like:

Good find. I go back and forth between Harlem and Heavy Hands for my favorite.

I'm on the build list somewhere....really excited about this one. Also bought the Stray Birds CD which is terrific, maybe my favorite new CD in years.
