I remember shaking with this pair of hands when visiting Jeff's shop 20 years ago...they are big and strong, like the person's heart...

Trevor,

It's cool to be able to see the bracing for the top, as I have a Model R and have never been able to view the bracing in it's entirety. You can really tell by the pics just how lightly braced Jeff build's his guitar tops. The braces seem so thin and light. Even the upper transverse brace is cut way down compared to others. Do you know how thin the top itself has been thicknessed to?

Jeff's guitars are the lightest in overall weight that I have ever played and now I can see just how little the top and it's bracing contributes to this. Sometimes, when I hold my Traugott, I wonder how it doesn't implode on itself it is so delicately built. It's the only guitar I own that I constantly keep in it's case! And it's the only guitar I own that sounds the way it does!

Your build is turning out nicely. I'd love to be able to afford one like yours in Mahogany to go along with my BRW model. That would be as good as it gets.

Bill

All of this is true.

This build is looking fantastic. I've always equated mahogany guitars with a rather less complex tone than some of the more vitreous alternatives but a mahogany Claxton that I played at Trevor's shop completely turned my head around on this issue - it thrashed 99% of other guitars I've ever played, irrespective of the wood. I'm betting this Traugott can't be anything other than in the same league or perhaps even better.

Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve,

That Claxton is back in on consignment and the owner wants a quick sale so its at a fantastic price. Though he is considering trading it in so it may go up any day.

Yes, the dogmas I subscribed to about the relative merits of mahogany and rosewoods were shattered by my mahogany Traugott R (one of the handful of mahogany guitars he has built).

Won't be long now. Any chance of posting an audio sample when it's done?

Not unless Jeff can do one. I don't have any way to record them at the moment.
