'Mars' - Nat'l Geographic tv show
Anyone else watch the first episode on Monday?
I thought it was fairly good as they interweave the 'today' real life people of the Space X project with the year 2033 mission. In 1 hour they couldn't really develop the characters well, so will see how it goes in the upcoming episodes.

I saw an ad for the show but not aware of it's plot. Is it based on a realistic journey to Mars in the future using theory or are there sci-fi components?

Particularly interesting to see the crew being interviewed (in character) by Sir Trevor MacDonald!!
Thought - in 2033 Sir Trev will be 110! He seems to be aging well!

I watched it and found it interesting. Kind of an extension of the movie with Matt Damon.

Both! Ha! It's science, but the future part is made-up, of course, which makes it fiction!

You don't have 'On Demand' cable viewing available? Check the online Nat'l Geo channel site, they may have it for streaming.

I'll give it a try. I imagine I'll make it interesting. I just hope they don't put too much drama in the male/female characters interacting with each other on the long trip (i.e. keep the soap opera stuff out).

I watched the first 40 minutes of episode 1 today. I just couldn't get into it. Usually I enjoy these types of factual shows dealing with the earth or space but not this one. Perhaps it's the characters. Perhaps if Neil deGrasse Tyson was narrating it ...

I like the documentary parts, but the dramatic parts have turned me off.
Watched the first two episodes in whole, but then started fast-forwarding through the drama to get to the factual parts halfway through the 3rd episode. Think I'm done with it. |

Nat Geo has proved this week they don't know how to make a drama show (even a 'mixed' drama), and should stick to what they do best. "Fast forward" 4 years (per the voice-over intro), a bunch of new characters we have never met before, and more arriving on Mars.

i think the 'mixed' drama set-up will get the ratings down- i like it when nothing else is on to watch

I fast-forwarded through the dramatic parts. The documentary parts hold some interest.
