Default Sergei DeJonge OM

Update - trade pending

Up for sale is a Sergei DeJonge OM in all Spanish Cedar. This guitar is simply outstanding. I have priced to reflect the cosmetic issues. (It's structurally perfect) The double top is incredibly responsive and resonant. Great with bare fingers or flatpicked. Unbelievable sustain. The guitar simply sounds amazing. If you wanted a gorgeous custom guitar from a world class luthier, here's your chance.

Sale price is $(trade pending) shipped lower 48. This amazing price reflects the well-played cosmetic condition. No structural issues at all, just some scratches and indentation in the soft French Polish. When I first listed this guitar, the neck set was a bit shallow and wasn't going to have much, if any, future adjustment. I went ahead and had the neck reset (Dusty Strings in Seattle, WA), and the result is a massive increase in tonal quality. I don't have another guitar that has better sustain than this one. Here is a great description of the guitar and condition from former seller, Gryphon Strings:

"Check the photos and you'll notice that this guitar has seen a lot of use, and the finish on the top shows it. There's quite a bit of wear in the "pickguard position," and there's also finish wear below the bridge. The rest of the guitar's finish is in far better condition than the soundboard, and there are no cracks whatsoever. How did this happen to such a deluxe guitar? Simple explanation, it got used by musician who traveled a lot and used this guitar for countless gigs. In short, it's a beautifully crafted tool that shows use.

Sergei de Jonge has never been particularly good at following the standard rule book for guitarmakers, and this all-Spanish cedar model is a prime example. While lots of builders have been offering all-mahogany guitars that aren't "economy" models, Sergei took the concept a bit further down the road. For one thing, he used Spanish cedar instead of mahogany, and for another he made it as a "double top." (The outer layer of the soundboard is Spanish cedar, while the inner layer is spruce. This is not made like plywood, it's two thin layers with the grain running in the same direction and a super-thin support matrix between them). And it's not just the soundboard construction that's deluxe, note the snakewood binding with green purfling lines, the spalted maple rosette, the headstock with veneers on both the front and back, etc.

For those who are curious about guitar woods, and their names, Spanish cedar doesn't come from Spain and it isn't a true cedar. It's a type of mahogany from South America. Spanish luthiers have long preferred this wood for their classical and flamenco guitar necks, so that's where the "Spanish" part of the wood's name comes from."

Specs can be found on Sergei's web site. In fact this guitar is the one featured for his OM.

Interesting guitar. What is the neck profile? And can you provide the string spacing at the bridge? I didn't see that information on the luthier website. Thanks.

This is a splendid deal for a de Jonge even with the blems noted. This can be your boutique workhorse guitar. Don't miss this opportunity to own an instrument built by a world renowned luthier at a fraction of the price!

If you looked up the word "Mojo" in the dictionary, there would be a picture of this guitar. Just as it is! Very nice!

Smile Yow!

Hey Stevien! What a killer axe. Please do hip us to the neck profile and string spacing.
I have had two DeJonges and they were both very nice indeed! One had a French polish, and it had a bit more going on tonally...

Any trade interests? I still wish I had bought that amazing one off by the Dr. from you! Oh, well.

Best on the sale, be well, and have fun!

Cheers

Paul

String spacing is 2 3/16". I'd desribe the neck as a nice shallow c shape.

It's amazing with the play wear on this guitar, that there is no evident fret wear! Gold evo frets maybe?

Up for another look. Any other DeJonge owners out there that can attest to the quality of these instruments?

Super workmanship and great tone and volume. I am overloaded and in sell mode and this is still calling me. Must resist... dang.

Best on the sale and envy to the next owner

Sergei builds some fabulous guitars..... especially the ones with his own personal label such as this guitar. Craftsmanship is always topnotch, he has a fantastic eye for detail cosmetics and his guitars sound outstanding as well.
I don't know why this one is still here....
