Default Guitar styles of the carter family by Mike Seeger

I've been wanting to learn how to play carter style guitar and found the homespun DVD. Does anyone have experience with this dvd? What is your opinion of it? Is there any other learning material I should check out?

His lessons come with multiple videos including note for note.
His tab is very professional too.

I agree. Ryan has a good selection of Carter style tunes.

I have that DVD and for some reason didn't stick with it. It's been a while but I recall my expectations were different for it, and I think there was a lot of finger picking in the instruction and I was expecting/hoping for flatpicking, which is how I learned Carter style.

I have tried Ryan and I think he is very good and polished and his lessons are very well done. I found though that some of his flatpicking tablature included awkward (to me) transitions and I struggled with some of the material that I thought I was ready for. But definitely take a look. It may be what you are looking for.

Also check out Flatpicking Essentials w/ Dan Miller. I think first couple of volumes of that series are all about Carter style.

I've Hal Leonard's Guitar Recorded Versions for 'The Carter Family Collection' by Fred Sokolow, so I can tell you it has a lot of great songs tabbed out and some playing tips.

I've never seen that Homepsun video, but it's probably a good one, both Homespun and Mike Seeger puts out good instructional material. And Mike Seeger toured with Maybelle Carter back in the 60-70's.

"Carter style" as played by Maybelle Carter after whom the style is named is a fingerpicking style. So if you just grab a dvd that says "Carter style" there's a pretty good chance it will teach fingerpicking. If you want to learn to play that way with a flatpick make sure the DVD cover mentions flatpicking.
