Believe that’s the first redwood braced top I’ve seen. Cool. Can’t wait to hear how that turns out. With braces I know it’s all about weight to stiffness ratio. Redwood has a fairly quick response to it (at least a top). Should be interesting what effect it may have used as braces.

Ben you are breaking land speed records on this one. Wow. Fun to watch.

Yeah, it is not something I have seen before either. But I recently did a Warhorse (my dread model) with redwood braces on Sitka, and it is a killer guitar. The redwood is very light and stiff. Let me clarify; this particular board of redwood is very light and stiff. And that is something good! Plus, I think it just looks cool...

I'm beginning to see how Ben keeps things moving....very systematic. While one part of the guitar is curing, another part is being created. Seems pretty logical to me, and yet I certainly haven't witnessed this structured stream of work all that often. I think many builders could make some notes here. I now see now how he turns hunks of wood into guitars so quickly. Part of this of course is I haven't asked for much of this one to be "unique"...deciding instead to let Ben do his thing, and enjoy his classic design.

When he first gave me the expected completion date (ie: told me how quickly this would be done), a chuckled a bit given my past experiences...only God and I know how frustrated I was with the ice cold molasses SLOW experience I had with a certain un-named builder who I started with years ago....arghhhhh

So, shame on me for not believing Ben at first...but NOW I'm a believer (and I couldn't leave her if I tried dum de dum de dum de dum de dum de dum) ha!

Here's some of the new stuff showing the headstock:

That is nice and clean and therefore classy. I sure hope there are some of those "cute" stiff redwood braces left just in case some new special VIP build comes up in the future!!!

Literally enough for one guitar. He who names it, claims it.

You guessed it, more progress... We started this guitar on Thanksgiving folks. I'm beginning to get to know Ben much better and as I do i realize that this man has got some energy. WOW. Check these out...this little pile of sticks I posted 10 days ago or so is turning into a guitar! Below are some of Ben's comments, and some of mine...

Gluing in side braces with my specially made cam clamps.

Finished rim assembly

"Test Fit"

Prepared to glue on the back

Ben showed me a picture of these clamps and referred to them as "my army of shop made cam clamps". For some goofy reason this picture makes me think of years and years ago when my Mom, like many women back then, would put curlers in her hair...somewhat disturbingly mechanical and yet so very methodically leading to a work of art .

And....voilà. Ben said "Back glued on, squeeze out all cleaned up."
