Default AGF Builders Calendar--major findraiser JR?

I've been waiting for the next thread for Mark Hatcher's builds--not that I will likely be able to afford one, but because they are so artistically done (both the guitars themselves and the photos of them!). Then I got to thinking about some of the other builders exceptional work(s) and how I so enjoy viewing these functional pieces of Art (I'm a visual artist and potter myself), and wondered if there had ever been considered a photographic calendar of pieces submitted by the luthiers here that could be sold through this site--for running this site. I would very much like to be able to look at some of my favorite objects (hand-built acoustic guitars) when not online, and I can't think of a better group of luthiers for assembling this collection.
Anyone else also interested?
And who would take the reins for this project (soliciting, assembling, layout, and printing, and distribution)?
I guess first would be to see if enough builders here would want to contribute pictures of their wares. (I see it as a full year of advertising to your target audience!)

Well, there are already magazines out there doing just this. Such as Guitarbench Magazine, Luthiers Hands, etc

I think it is a cool idea as well, but boy it would be hard to narrow this down to 12 pictures if one were going to feature one per month as is typical

Yes wilding it down to 12 would indeed be difficult. How about making something akin to a high school yearbook? Then we can have all our pals at the various guitar shows sign them.

No, but really, I think its a good idea too. I'd certainly support it.

You're asking if the builders who pay to be sponsors here would accept some additional free advertising?

Cool idea. Very difficult to implement without hurting some feelings.

A digital wallpaper calendar? Change the image day to day rather than monthly? Would need 365 pictures, get everybody in.

Could always have the 12 big photos and 1-2 smaller photos in the calendar grid.

I think this idea would have been cooler before the internet.

Smile Still a cool idea

D Dave, u are right, but it is still a cool idea. We all love to drool over sweet guitars. Dave, you can just get one of your beauties out of the case... Hmmm, so can I, I guess!

And, If the calendar is on the wall, we will drool on the floor instead!

Cheers

Paul

"Major" fundraiser? I doubt it... Perhaps enough to buy a case of strings.

The other challenge is the lack of high quality photos by most of the builders who post on the AGF. In this day and age, high quality studio photos sell a lot more guitars than retentive arguments in insipid discussion threads.

If I were a builder spending weeks if not months to build a guitar, I would make sure my guitars are well represented on the web. I'd hire a real photographer or learn how to do it properly myself. It's safe to say that most builders undersell themselves by posting less than ideal photos of their work.

Some folks may argue that it's all about sound -- but even in that department buyers have very little to chew on as most of the sound clips are poorly done by demonstrators who can barely play. There are bazillions of good players out there -- I don't understand why most acoustic builders sweat it by hiring their buddies or the nice guy next door who will do it for $20 and a can of beer.
