Rockabilly 69, that sounds GREAT !!!! The compressor you're using did a great job on keeping your guitar and vocal smooth thru out the song, no peaks or valleys, that's just what I'm looking for in my compressor too. Sounds great and a lot like Stephen Stills !!!!! Thanks for posting that !!!!!!!!!

That's a very professional sounding recording. You see if you start out with a track like that, mixing it will be a breeze. The guy that taught me about recording always said to fix things before you record things, don't wait to try to "fix it in the mix." Start off with a great recording and you'll end up with a great recording.

Thanks I thought you would like to hear the ART VLA in action as you said you were going to leave your new VLA set up for when you are rehearsing. And since I do that all that time for my rehearsal I just hit record for you! It wasn't really hard to mix it's only two channels

F---Ya That's the perfect demo. That shows exactly what a compressor can do. Consistent volume level thru out the song....that's exactly what I want !!!!!

Now you've got me really excited, I get mine tomorrow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Can't wait !!

The positive results you have gotten with the Blizzard and the Art preamp made me break down and buy them. All of this compressor talk has me gassing for one of those too. Following this thread is really starting to hurt my wallet.

good news though...after the compressor, I'm done, my recording chain is complete. I shouldn't need anything else for a very long time.

It's here !!!! Here again it's cold as ice, so I'm going to let it warm up to room temperature before turning it on.

As advertised, the box was damaged but the unit is brand new and not a scratch on it. Mint condition !!! I was going to toss the box out anyhow.

I changed out the tubes to the Mullards and got a better high end response. Here's two sound clips, the first one is the stock tubes, the second is the Mullards.....

The compressor seems to be working just fine !!!!!!

And as if the Blizzard deal wasn't enough, here's the best deal I've seen on a Tube LDC Condenser Variable Pattern mic (with transformer), it's an MXL Revelation... http://www.pssl.com/!Wrt8egTK0MrPJjC...FQm4wAodSLQEyg

These mics compete with mics costing way much more!!! I bought one a few weeks ago and was skeptical until I ran it through it's paces. And the typical street price for these mics is $900+. So $399 is a great deal! The sound is surprisingly flat but with a nice tube warmth. MXL took notice of what many mic modders were doing with their mics and decided to do the same with this mic. I am comparing this to my microphones which cost way more (Neumann U87 U89 M147, Blue Cactus Kiwi Blueberry, etc), and it is hanging just fine. There's a bit of self noise from the tube but nothing too bad, and nothing that would cause me problems personally.

Sounds nice, I wonder how it compares with the V-69 ME tube mic that I already have....I'm tapped out right now, but it looks like a really nice deal.

some differences, (besides a completely different circuit)

V69ME 12AT7 tube, no pad or HPF switch, no multipattern, double layer headbasket, smaller mic body like a U87, 22.0 db self noise, hybrid FET/Tube cicruit

Revelation EF86 tube, -10 db pad and HPF pass switch, multipattern, single layer headbasket, bigger heavier mic body, 18.0 db self noise, all tube circuit

Sounds nice but I'm going to have to stick with what I have for now. The Blizzard 4000 and the Neumann TLM 102 make a great pair for recording. Even better that two of the 102's.

I've been making test recordings all day and I have to say I really like this compressor. It does just what it's supposed to do. It evens out my playing and makes a nice smooth recording, that I could easily mix. So now that I have my gear all lined up, I have to work on my playing.
