ACUS One 8 amplifier anyone?

I picked up a mint ACUS One 8 for around half the new price. It is the very attractive wooden version and it arrived yesterday.

So far I'm VERY impressed with the sound and effects and, at this stage, prefer it to my AER Compact 60/3.

Anybody else used one?

I had a quick demo a couple of days ago at my luthier after he installed a K&K Pure Mini (in my Bedell HGM-17-G). This was a One-6, mind you, but I came away VERY impressed, it sounded sweet and full and clear at the same time. If the One-8 is anything like this (or even better, as one might half expect) I would say you have made a very good deal for yourself!

Here's a YouTube review of the "One 6":

"ACUS Sound Engineering", has its own website, and claims to be an autonomous family company.

As a departure from the info in the demo, the drivers are said to be "made to our specs"".

We don't, (AFAIK), see much of the brand here in the "colonies".

I have an old RA 400 made by SR Technology. SR is now part of the Schertler group (if you go to the Schertler website you will see the SR logo). I understand the Schertler Jam series is made in Italy. That ACUS sure does resemble the SR/Schertler gear. Sounds great as well!

Hi guys
I have been doing a lot of research over these Acus amps.
I did hear through fellow musicians that they are on par with AER.


I decided to go to Acus dealer and went to the PA store where they had one available.I am glad you guys brought this subject up. Infact it confirmed that I should go and investigate.
When I got to the guitar store the staff were supurb and helpful.
They let me take my time and try the Acus One 6.
I took my Martin Dx1 and my Electro Voice condenser mic.
The amp was smaller then I thought but looks incredible and feels very solidly built.

As soon as I strummed the first chord I thought my goodness . what a big sound.
I was there over an hour playing away and I am completely blown away I also had the chance for the staff in the store to play. (The guys who run the store are singer/ songwriters.
The amp sounded fantastic .it sounds
much warmer and has more punch then my AER compact 60/3. It has beautiful fat bottom end.
I purchased the amp straight away.

Made in Italy and made with incredible components.
You need to try it for yourself guys and you will see what I mean.
I used it first time this evening and fellow musicians kept stopping and looking at this small box with a huge dynamic range.


I am over the moon guys a singer/songwriters dream.

Schertler is a Swiss company, but all of their amps are made in Italy.

Thanks for the clarification. I have the old SR Technology RA 400 which is a slight variation of the Jam 400 and I also have the Schertler Side that I either use as an extension speaker or as a monitor. Great gear!

A further part of the backstory is that SR Technology was a separate Italian company that was in a partnership with Schertler, a Swiss company. Schertler designed the amps (for the most part) and SR Technology manufactured the amps in Italy. Some of the amps (e.g., Unico, David) had the Schertler label. Some (e.g., Jam Series) had the SR Technology label. About two years ago, SR Technology merged into Schertler and the SR Technology name was dropped.

As far as I can tell, Acus is a group of former SR Technology/Schertler folks and is a separate company.

Check out the Godin ASG amps. They look similar (identical), except the Godin has a nice tilt back feature. They're also made in Italy. I have the ASG 150 and it's great.

They should be available through any Seagull dealer.

My impression from the bass side of things is that there are a limited number of companies that build the class D power amps and most of the amp companies out there just source from one of those manufacturers and then build their own preamp designs. So it is no surprise that the Schertler has a power amp section built by someone else.
