Default Reinforcement for onboard preamp

Hello, I'm planning on installing an onboard pickup/preamp (barndoor type fishman) on a solid wood guitar. (Don't worry, it's a silver creek) Since the sides are solid wood I thought maybe I should put something in there to reinforce the wood and protect from cracks. Larrivee uses a strip of wood, maybe I could do that but what other options are there? What about that cloth material that they use on top of major joints on guitar tops sometimes?

Folks use the cloth for around sound ports and for side strips. So, why not.
I secured one (on a laminate but just an option) with industrial grade Velcro. Once attached I don't see a crack happening behind that well adhered strip. I would take an autopsy to remove that velcro strip!

Thanks YJ,

Do you know where to get that cloth? What it's called? And what is used as adhesive/hardener for it?

Ok, I'll look into that. Any idea what is used as adhesive/hardener for that type of fabric?

The Larrivee's I've seen all had cloth re inforcements where the preamps go. They put the cloth in all of them, at least the older ones.

I suspect they use watered down titebond to glue it in with.
