That appears to be a compression rod rather than the device most of us call a single action truss rod. It can be used to do the job, but oh how I love two pieces of metal working against each other for their consistent results.

I would like to have a ti equivilent of the LMI TRST I have favored for many years.

I believe Kevin Ryan uses a titanium truss rod, but I have no clue as to its origins or whether it is proprietary...

Not titanium, but Stuart Gort is working on some ultra-light and strong carbon fiber composite truss rods. Not sure what the current progress is, but here was the most recent update http://www.luthiersforum.com/forum/v...=10101&t=47260

Since Kevin is formerly a machinist, I believe, he possibly makes them himself.

You can buy a 3' length of titanium rod for about $50. Probably not the easiest stuff in the world to thread but I'm sure it can be done with hand tools.

Well, after searching more and following leads, it seems that a Titanium TWO-WAY truss rod is not to be found....My apologies, I should have specified that I am looking for a two way rod in my initial post. It seems that I remember an Asian company approaching me at The Memphis guitar show with one but I could be mistaken.

Titanium is horrible about galling up and locking itself together permanently. Also - the normal rod stuff is pretty soft and gummy... I would classify it more like aluminum than steel.

The welds required for a 2 way for are more or less impossible for amateurs.. They require very specialized equipment and carefully controlled inert atmospheres.

If I was ever tempted to use it as a trussrod - I would do a lot of testing with various nut materials and alloys of titanium before I stuck one inside a guitar neck.

Thanks

At the last ASIA symposium, John Condino expressed his desire for a double action titanium rod and his frustration at being unable to find anyone willing and able to produce them. You might give him a call, he may have had some success since the symposium.
