R.I.P. Bill. Yours guitars are my favourite. You'll be missed.

Sad news for sure. I very much respected his design sense and commitment to outstanding execution. He set the bar high. The guitar world will miss his contribution, but I'm thankful to have had him in our world.

Very sad news indeed.

IMO, Bill built the finest guitars in the world, regardless of price. I don't think a "Good" sounding guitar every left his factory. In fact, I've never played a Collings instrument that wasn't STELLAR.

You will be missed.

RIP.

I talked to Bill Collings a few times, and met him in person a couple of years ago. He raised the state of the art for acoustic guitar and mandolin construction, no two ways about it.

I'm so sad over this loss of a man I never met. I have 2 ukes from Collings. That's enough for me to feel kinship. Prayers for Bill and family.

Yes, sad indeed.

I confess to ending GAS via owning a Telecaster, Collings electric and Santa Cruz acoustic.

I didn't know much about Mr. Collings but was obsessed with wanting an ES-335. Haunted by an associate letting me play one from 1959 his shop had for sale. When all the new ones seemed so inconsistent for the money and the Gibson boss seemed so obnoxious Collings seemed just the opposite. I got one of the first of the large SoCo Dave's got. It's at once more of what that 1950s Gibson was than their new stuff with precision and beauty that is hard to describe.

My appreciation and fondness grew after dealing with customer service, having the guitar and learning more about Mr. Collings. Their customer service said my guitar has a lot more Bill in than many because it's an early version of a project he was very passionate about.

I have the same sort of respect for Richard Hoover.

How neat that he created such great stuff and a great company. How great that he did something legendary with his passions and skills. RIP Mr. Collings.
