That 814 sounds positively blasphemous. Maybe I need to be verrry patient and wait for a nylon Savoy.

Seems to me that people are aligning with the ranking. One thing I would like to point out, though: the L13 doesn't represent all carbon fiber guitars any more than the 814 doesn't represent all wood guitars. In this particular comparison, the ekoa Savoy seems to have a warmer sound than the L13, but there are other carbon fiber guitars that would also have a warmer sound than the L13.
When I picked my X20 over my 814, that is specifically those two guitars. We have at least one member here who has both an X20 and an L13 that might offer some insight. And, so no one thinks I am promoting any specific brand, how about an L13 compared with a RainSong Shorty or Parlor (closer in size)? A CA? If the group can talk Ted into doing a RoadTrip with his new X20 (from a different thread), maybe he can pack a couple other CF guitars along so folks can really make some comparisons? I would suggest putting an 814 in there, too, but those are readily available in many markets; not so much with carbon fiber options. |

I found the E-koa to be the most articulate. I'm impressed.
The Savoy captured my attention. The L-13 and Taylor did not. I kept trying to be pulled in but it only occurred with the Savoy. Great comparison. Thank you for the clip. Very well done!

Awesome comparison, Mike. I wont rate the guitars because they are so different, but it is amazing to me that two small body guitars, an 0, and a 00, that are made from non traditional materials can hold their own alongside the venerable 814ce, a much larger grand auditorium, and the absolute best selling acoustic electric in the US. Says something about what Blackbird has been able to achieve with the tone of their guitars over the years.

The Taylor 814ce reinforces that old forestry-student adage: Wood Is Good!

Finally found my Sony headphones. Wow to me this proves why Taylor sells a lot of guitars.

Toured the factory several years ago, very cool. Got to see what a $250,000 of Koa looks like! Always like the jumbos with the Moustache bridge.

The Kramster;
I heard that. I'm with Tom2--I think a nylon version would be ravishing. Joe has done three nylon strung instruments (Rider, SuperOM, Uke) and each has been exceptional. A nylon Savoy would be sweet and would probably have a greater appeal to traditional players than cf. |
