I've been making guitars for more than three decades. When I look closely at my finish I see flaws. The flaws are fewer and less glaring than 30 years ago, but still not perfect. I've seen a few guitars with perfect finishes, but they weren't ones that I made. I'm not sure I've ever seen a factory-made finish that was perfect. Some of them are far from it.

You've done very well for your first experience with it.

Thank you sir. That means a lot to me. I'm looking forward to maybe building a second one but just maybe.

Perfection is a fine ideal, attaining is an illusion. It is the realm of nature, not man, IMO. Certainly not THIS man.

Painting is a skill.

Buffing is a skill.

A lot of people manage to get good results with very little to no training.

The final finish is simply an illusion, more scratches exist on a surface finished with 2000 grit than exist on a surface sanded with 220 grit.

It about getting the scratches small enough that the human eye can no longer detect them.
