I hope to, Mary! But travelling half the globe to make it there isn't that accessible.
Will be talking more to Tim and you next week as I am clearing some dateline this week.
Thanx!!

I am really excited to see how this guitar will turn out to be. I can imagine how BK feels.....to see the birth of this wonderful custom!!

Rainbow - you're absolutely correct about how amazing it is to see my guitar come alive. I look forward to seeing your build. You'll love working with Mary & Tim.

And now to some more photos:

Tim sands the top sides on the disk sander:

Mary informs me that there was serious squeaking in this step:

The top is glued to the sides:

The go bars do their job once again:

... as does Tim:

The wedges secure the top to the sides:

And that's it for this time. As always, thanks for looking.

This is why God created the UPS truck and UPS airplane.

You know what's funny? I won't hi-jack the thread, but I want to share this cute story.

We have two customers who are good friends and they live in the same community. They received their guitars about the same time. One is a mail man. The other works for UPS. Their routes cross paths throughout their day. They told us they have been the perfect ad for McKnight Guitars.

The UPS man waved and shouted to his friend, the mail man, "Your McKnight is on my truck!" Apparently he proceeded to continue on his way just to tease his friend. The UPS man's cell phone calls began tormenting the mail man.

Around lunch time they crossed paths and the mail man shouted, "Pull that baby out NOW! I want to see it!"

They parked on the side of the street and pulled the guitar box off the truck and cut it open. Then, together they opened the guitar case to get their first big whiff of new guitar. Smiles beaming, the mail man played a song. They, "Ohhh and awwwed." Lacking time they wrapped it up and went back to work. That week the mail man called and told us about his day. It was a great phone call. We all laughed.

God bless the world of delivery men.

I have mentioned this before that my job is fun because I get to work one on one with our customers. I get to send them many desired pictures. I feel like Mrs. Santa each time I send teasers and they show them off on the AGF.
When customers get their guitars I feel like it is Christmas at the McKnight house, too. I can't wait to hear how the Lord will use each guitar for his glory.

BK is excellent as a customer. I send his pictures and within hours he has them down loaded onto his hard drive so I can delete them from my end. To date I do not have one set of pictures of a guitar build. The customer is the soul owner of those goods. I am hoping that some day a customer makes a book and sends it to me for my own library.

What a story!! The two guys must be having so much fun, teasing each other but yet know how much the guitar means to the mail man.

The one on one interaction and the photos are what really captivated me.
You know what, Mary, I even have a theme in mind about the possible build.
Will catch up with you and Tim next week. Now back to my work.....
(I kept on coming into this forum even though my dateline is approaching.....FOCUS!! FOCUS!!)

I'm as bad as Rainbow. I need to stay focused and not get to anxious. (Hurry, hurry, rush, rush!)

Great story Mary. I can just imagine the postman and the UPS driver's joy of listening to a new McKnight. I know I'm looking forward to that experience!

Here are the latest photos:

Now that the top is on Tim routes the outer edge of it:

Mary gets splattered with sawdust, but claims she doesn't inhale:

Tim sands the box top and for the first time Tim and Mary hear what the box will sound like:

Mary writes "Your guitar gets the ax.":

The rough draft of the neck placement begins:

Tim, I think I need my fretboard to be a bit wider - please!

The neck slot is being cut:

Tim files the cut smooth:

Tim scraps the excess glue from the crack on my headstock cover:

I have to end this post and start another since we're only allowed 10 photos per post.

... continuing ...

Here are the bindings & purfling being prepared right before they are bent:

Tim gives them a spritz of H2O to relax the wood:

As before the binding is set on the heat pad and then a metal plate is placed over them:

Tim slides them into the bending jig just as he did with the sides:

They are heated and cooled three times:

And that's it for this session. Thanks for looking.

Thanks Billy Boy - I always love watching your builds.

I got a new set of photos - 50 this time - from Mary and Tim. I do want to thank them both. Mary takes all these pictures, uploads them and comments on at least 50%. This doesn't count all the photos she probably deems unworthy. I also want to give her credit for the running commentary. Most all the comments are "stolen" from Mary, so Mary - thank you!

So let's get to the photos ...

Measuring for the binding depth:

After Tim finished rocking out he returns to eat some sawdust from the router (bk):

I love the grain of the Redwood!

Tim routs some more. I'm sorry, but I have to say I love that the back has just a hint of sapwood:

Time for the wedge:

Looking good (bk):

This file will assure Tim this is the proper fit:

This is the trickiest area to achieve a perfect fit:

I included this because I just love the look of the rosette, the Redwood and the Ziricote:

I'm going to post more, but I'm reaching my photo limit.

BK

continuing ...

And we're back to the wedge:

Here's the difference between a luthier and a guitar player - a guitarist would never consider putting their thumb in such great peril! (bk)

I can't wait to see what this finally looks like (bk):

The clamp assures a snug fit at the waist:

Mary said "With Halloween in mind, this looks a little like "the chuckie doll". You should be scared" Sorry Tim, but I had to include this:

Did I mention I love the look of the rosette and the Redwood?

Tim uses the tube to apply soft pressure to the rounded corner of the cut-away without worries of gluing himself to your guitar:

Tim - what are you trying to get my guitar hooked on? Great shot of the rosette:

I love Mary's comment "It almost looks like he is wrestling a gator.":

And that's all she wrote - for this time. Thanks for looking.

This is still funny. Imagine the headlines, "Gater wrestler acts like Chuckie." Tim's half asleep. He will see this tomorrow before church.

I may need to visit the altar.

I noticed in the latest group of photos the bicycle powered band saw. It's nice to see old world craftsmanship in a day where so much is done with CNC cutters.

Very observant! Now you know what I do for the customer. Not everything is man powered here. Woman power is needed to pump those pedals fast enough to get a clean crisp cut.
