Default NGD- Alavarez MDR70SB

For Reference, I have the MF version MD610EBG (MD60EBG)Sitka top and hog back and sides All solid
The MDR70SB is a 12 Fret Dread all-solid Rosewood back and sides and A++ Sitka Top
I use a 1.5 Dunlop Prime pick and I can be heavy-handed at times..

Ok, I thought the MD60EBG was loud This MDR70 is louder a lot louder!
It will take some time to adjust to the less tension strings(12 fret) with my heavy hand, as I had some Fret buzz and had to adjust the neck relief

Overtones....YES, I'll need to adjust my playing style to take full advantage of it
Fit and Finish is top-notch
The guitar is light
The gigbag is nice...
I'm letting the guitar adjust to our humidity and I'll post more as I see and hear more.

One other thing...It seems like the MDR70 has big lows and chimey highs but seems to lack some mids..The MD60BG lacks some lows..has mid's and highs but that is only my first day observation after the guitar acclimates to my climate it might be different

Very cool! Please post pics and more impressions as you play it in. I’m still interested in this guitar.

I own the acoustic versions and agree with the OP's assessment. Both are very nice. But scale length is the same on both guitars so I can't see how the string tension would different as a result of the 12 vs 14 fret. Maybe just the setup?

Ahhhh your right..I just assume it was different because of 12 fret and 14 fret I guess it comes down to the neck relief(fret buzz), which I'll adjust to perfection and than shave the saddle if needed.

I can't wait to record with it.. to see where my voice fits in the mix

The MDR70 is one sweet guitar. Finger style is just as nice as a flat pick.

I had given up on dreadnoughts and it restored my faith!

Played one a while ago and enjoyed it. I played the bluegrass dread too. Very nice, though the neck profile was different to my Eastman.
I wish they didn't put that power shell ring on the masterworks guitars. They do nothing for the aesthetics IMO. The bluegrass masterworks has herringbone which works well. Anyway, all the Alvarez masterworks range punch above their weight. Enjoy.

Kind of an Update:

Well I'm having trouble getting all the fret buzz out.....Possible capo on a 12 fret issue or at least a lot more sensitive to a heavy hand and 1.5 pick?
This is really taking the guitar down a notch for me...
Also it is so bass-treble loud/aggressive that it takes a lighter hand, Maybe change strings to lights might help? I've got some Earthwood 11-52's I might try
I'm beginning to also think that rosewood would be better on a guitar that needs more projection and bass...like an OM sized guitar...
It's got great tone and overtones, but I need to learn how to rain them in with my technic

Has it been professionally set up?

Nope
Not sure I want to go that far when I'm still in the return window, It's something that I need to figure out whether it's worth going down that road and if then return it and lose out $100-150 or have a guitar that is great for me?
A little soul searching this weekend
