Thanks all. Don't want a jumbo type so the large Alvarez as nice as it may be is not the one, but thanks.
The Seagull isn't quite my style, but thanks. Maybe the Gibson Keb Mo' might be a good one to search out. Sadly theere doesn't seem to be any about. I like a challenge. Also - Gibsons in the UK usually seem to me to be "B" or "C" stock. Maybe I'm spoilt by Collings stuff. So next question - anyone got a Keb Mo ???? Thanks Fatt-dad

Check out Larrivee 000-50 or 60 series. They are wide nut small bodies. Whether gibson-style is debatable, but they sound surprisingly sweet.

Lakewood do some wide necks(the A models are small body & can come in wide necks)I think that Furch do some wide necks. You may have to have one made but you tend to lose money on them.I know that Dave King makes an L00 which is very nice but resale price is not very good, maybe try Alister Atkin or Ralph Bowen or even Brook Guitars but they would be a lot of money. I have an odd Larrivee that I cant find anything about (12 fret , smallish body, SO 03RW all solid, spruce & rosewood with a very wide neck & wide string spacing,if you have an interest PM me(dont know if its funky enough for you) As for the Gibson F25 , they are 60's and very rare over here. If you have an interest in the Larrivee get intouch (I am in the UK) Hope this is of some help

I've got an L-00 built by Dave King, an exceptional instrument built with hide glue, extremely light and with very biting and bluesy tone:
Dave could build you one with whatever nut width/spacing you need, i think mine is about 1-3/4. Alister Atkin also makes an excellent blues guitar in the L-1 which is wonderful as well. Buy British!!!

Surprised that the Nick Lucas Special has not been mentioned. I would have that fellow in Vancouver, B.C. make you his interpretation of one. Under 2K. Can't recall the name. It will come to me. ..... http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...d.php?t=453617 https://tinkerguitars.ca I am quite sure they will build you one with 1 13/16" nut width. Norman Blake plays an original Gibson Nick Lucas Special and it has 1 13/16" nut.

In Gibson 00 size the Recording King Rnj26-may is the best bang for the buck (1-3/4”/25.5” scale). In OOO deep body, 12 fret, cutaway, 1-7/8” nut/ 25.3” scale the Takamine TF740fs and/or EF 740fs. In 14 fret 1-7/8” nut/25.5” scale, the Takamine EAN30c but full OM/NEX size.
Crooked Star makes a couple of guitars that should be on your radar. The Tacoma parlor 13 fret ( really a deep body 00) too. |

Might be a couple of other things...fret-board radius too flat or too round, and not enough string spacing?

I second the Keb Mo. It has a very different acoustic tone. That beguiling dry Americana tone. I have played two and they are truly a wild ride. They sound nothing like the Canadian S6. They have that can't put it down feeling. Very addictive because of the design. The tone is balanced and a bluesy warm fast decay. Very fun to play. Can handle fast ragtime and gypsy rhythms too.

I’d look up Patch Rubin of Wide Sky Guitars. His PL1 is ridiculously cool, and there’s no better old school Gibson-esque out there.
