Default Music Man 2x10 130 Watts

I have a Music Man 2x10 130 watt combo (early good one) and am thinking about selling and will post it where it belongs if I do so

BUT...the question is how many of you guys actually can or do use 130 watts??

I have a 65 watter 2x10 as well and while I used the 130 outdoors at times in the past for street festivals etc...and this was before I got the 65'er...the 65 is usually plenty for outdoor gigs as well, even without being mic'd.

What do you guys suggest? I don't think I have ever had this 130 turned full up..at about 4 of 5 it is ear splitting...

I love Music Man amps. I was a tech for many years and appreciate how well the MMs are built. I can't and won't tell you whether 130W is too much, but if you're like me, as soon as you sell the amp, you'll need it!

Regards, Bill.

...
130 watts is only slightly louder than 65 watts, 3 dB louder to be exact.

Hi tfl...
I can't stay in the room with my 60 watt combo, and my 12 watter (single 8'' Celestron, single tube) is just right for a stage amp in small situations.

I can't imagine needing 130 watts for most applications. I had a 100 watt dual 10'' and couldn't stay in the vicinity of it either. Sold it to buy the 60 watter. I hung onto the 60 watt for larger stages, but honestly don't use it that often.

Tha amp has a Master Volume and a 65/130W switch so getting a good sound at low volume isn't a problem. I seem to remember those things weight a TON.... that could be the problem

The amps with the old script logo and the 12AX7/7025 drive tube are the more desireable amps (not sure what year yours is).

And yeah, they are heavy - around 70 pounds if I recall.

I curious as to what makes them more desirable.

Music Man amps have a solid state preamp section.
The early amps, however, used a valve/tube phase splitter. Starting in the late 1970s, Music Man amps came with a solid state phase splitter stage.

The earlier amps are more collectible.
