Osthoff Guitars, shop stuff '17
Here is another one of those threads that I will start out with saying that is has been a while since I have had a chance to post on the AGF. I do try to stop in from time to time.
I have had some (not great) things come up that have taken me out of the shop for the past couple of months and have been out of town for much of that time. Although there is still a lot of stuff to handle out of the shop, I have been getting some bench time recently. Prior to the “distraction” I was working on a process to make my own tuner buttons. It took some time, but I am getting close to a decent process. Still it takes a long time to make them but it is a little feature that I wanted to add to my guitars for a while. Here is an example of the Madagascar Rosewood buttons. Speaking of the buttons, I put a set of rosewood buttons on this JS-B (Jumbo Series Baritone) that I finishing up as I was working on the prototype buttons. I got a “successful” batch of rosewood buttons to go along with the theme. I offered to put on a set of snakewood buttons, but we chose the rosewood instead. Here are a couple of shots of the buttons on the finished guitar: While I am at it, here are a few shots of the whole JS-B: It looks like I will be out of town (and the shop) for a couple more days this week. Hopefully I will be back at the bench a bit more on Friday. More to come ... |

..... Agreed. Allowing the strings to pass straight through the nut, instead of twisting/binding in the nut. I wish more builders would go this route.

That looks really really good John!
Is there any actual benefit arising from this feature? For what it's worth, I really like the aesthetics

Beautiful work John. and I love the straight line design - simplicity!
And sooner or later, you get by the "distractions" in life. It's never easy or convenient as your plate can only hold so much stuff at a time. Glad that you are back to the shop. Be well. Rick

That guitar looks fantastic. I love the hefty bird's beak joint and the body shape especially.

Thanks Mike. I was trying to think back about some of the stuff I have done (in the shop) this year. I almost forgot about that FS yet it was so much fun to build. Glad you are enjoying it.
