Mine is a Taylor Mini GS too, all my acoustics are there to be played, (if your hands are clean), it's starting to wear nicely as well.

I don't own a "beater" per se.
If I'm taking a guitar in a trip it'll be my Godi-phone, or my Yairi. The Godi-phone is a mid '90's Godin with an Epiphone Neck. It's gonna end up being my "Albatross" cause I doubt anyone would want it. But as it sits, it feels and sounds good. Though the intonation is off above the 11th fret. The Yairi, with its Laminate back and sides, is pretty impervious to wild changes as it has survived them since 1991. It goes in the Road Runner and travels like it's done it many times before. I'm thinking of obtaining a Journey Instruments 0f 660 for car trips.

My camp guitar is a Yamaha FG700.
I am continually impressed with it considering the 200€ price.

I have 2 beaters - one acoustic & one electric.
The acoustic is a Savannah all lam Parlor. Narrow nut, but a very thick neck which helps with playability. A bit boxy sounding but perfect for Blues stuff. $79 on Ebay. The electric beater is a Rogue. It's actually a good player with a nice feeling neck, the pickups in it are pretty harsh though. Set up for slide in Open G street performing. The Savannah lives at work at gets played. The Rogue stays in it's stand and I can't remember the last time I picked it up. I have my Ascari GTS set up for slide and it sounds awesome, so the Rogue just sits.

'71 Guild F-20 I picked up in truly distressed cosmetic condition for $300.
Sounds great, and I could not possibly tell if it got more dings and cracks. Seriously, unless someone stepped on it.

My current beater guitar is a Seagull Folk model, which I bought used in a Vancouver, British Columbia pawn shop last September. Its cedar top is quite scratched up, but I got an excellent price on the guitar and it really sounds good. It's got a solid cedar top over laminated cherry back and sides.
I wanted a guitar to take along on the Alaska Martin Highway ferry ride from Bellingham, Washington to Whittier, Alaska, which is about an hour and a half south of Anchorage. The little Seagull suited the purpose admirably. Since then whenever I have folks over to my house to play music, I have the Seagull out on a stand for anyone who needs a guitar to play. Everyone who's played it has complimented it on its tone. Wade Hampton Miller |

I've got an old Yamaha FG180 that sounds decent but has battle scars...missing binding on the back, cracked and repaired headstock, pick wear under pick guard...I'm not afraid to lug her around the campground or the festival grounds.

I noticed that about my spruce/rosewood mini, it's wearing very nicely...the top's turning a wonderful color and the neck is looking great...use has polished the side of the ebony fretboard to a smooth gloss. And it just seems to keep getting better, soundwise.

The ONLY exception is when I go outside with a guitar. I play at a lot of family get togethers and pool parties, and people use bug spray and it just worries me to take my nice ones. |

Right. The other part of the equation is where wouldn't you take your best guitars.

My little FS700s Yamaha was purchased for that purpose (or at least that's what I tell myself). It really sounds too good to be a beater!

Mine's a Blueridge BR-40. I like it because it sounds surprisingly good for a solid top laminate back and sides and I don't have to worry about it with humidity or dings...it's already dinged up
The sound doesn't compare to nicer guitars but it sounds much better than what I'd expect for the price point. I changed out the pick guard on this one. |

Mine is an Alvarez AP66sb. Perfect for tossing in the car, hiking to some nice spot and playing to a beautiful view.
