I've never bought a really nice, new guitar, so just about every guitar I've ever owned could be considered a beater. The destination or conditions never prevented me from taking my J-50, which I've always considered my best guitar.

The one on the right, the old Ibanez in my signature.

Solid top, laminated back and sides. Never seen a case as far as I know. Crack in the neck near the headstock, repaired once and opened up again so I'm leaving it alone. Does not seem to affect intonation.

I believe I paid around $250 for it 12-15 years ago when I got started again after a very long layoff.

It is a little harsh under a flatpick, but projects very nicely fingerpicked with bare flesh. I prefer it over the Martin on the right for that use. It's a keeper!

my 1975 Harmony with a tail piece 3/4 size. Great for camping, surprisingly good tone. Replaced the floating bridge with a bigger one with bone. Bought it used for $50.00, has been to Alaska, Florida, and the Bahamas.

Well said, Mr, Moustache, I'm in full agreement. I always thought it best to make as good a sound as possible wherever I was/am. I played enough dodgy guitars when I was learning to play. I imagine the person who started the thread was thinking of playing "out" (open mics or sessions etc.) ani I admit we have to be watchful of our instruments in these situations, but I don't do it. And when playing at home, why play a lesser guitar?

Martin 00X1-AE. Since Photobucket won't let me link to pics anymore, here is a generic shot. Great little guitar.

Beater guitar is a Martin D16 custom. It had a long finish crack on top and was second hand. Got it for a great price and it has bounced around my living room for ten years.

Not really a beater guitar I suppose because I would cherish this guitar if it was my only guitar. But definitely a guitar that gets played to death and dinged and scratched with no worries.

I see a lot of folks list Seagull as their beater guitar. My Seagull S6 cedar top is my GOOD guitar! LOL! One day I will be able to afford to trade up, but I really do love my S6, and I'll never get rid of it.

My beater is my Seagull S6. Travel guitar is a baby Taylor.

This is in no way a knock on the Seagull, by the way. I got it used for $150 and it already had some dents and dings so I don't mind passing it around for others to play. I keep it in its case when not in use, but I'm not as particular about it as I am my more expensive guitars.

Nothing to be ashamed of. Seagull makes really good guitars at a reasonable price.

My beater is a Yamaha FG-700S. In spite of it being my beater, is has yet to gain so much as a single scratch on it anywhere.

Got a second hand Wechter TO8418 from AGF classifieds today that was purchased with the notion that it would become my campground beater. It's a great player though - so it might do a lot of commuting back and forth between house and camper.
