The rosette is in place. Tamarind bordered by abalone bordered by radial grained BRW bordered by BWB purfling.

The hole is cut

Against the cedar the rosette looks awesome

Very very pretty. Those choices look great with that western red cedar top. Really nice!

Beautiful rosette against the cedar top, Cigarfan. Your back and side set is fantastic as well--I'm really enjoying this one as it unfolds...

I first saw the last pic (rosette close-up) from across the room. Reminded me of shots satellites take of earth from space... interesting terrain indeed, cigarfan : )

Man Mr. Cigar,

I think our builds are almost exactly at the same stage...I don't think the box has been started on mine, but the back and top are glued, you might be slightly ahead with the finished rosette. I only live a few hours from Mark's, but unfortunately 3 days drive from Steve....

Glad to have you all following along.

Tom, I think you're right. Just about the same stage. Love the way your eccentric rosette is coming along. Looks really good. I'm a few hours from Mark too ... by plane. Wish I could be there as he builds it. But his photography is so good I feel like I am.

Tool question for Mark: what is that tres cool cutter opening the sound hole?
I gotta get one of those.
And by the way, beautiful start on this build. Cedar/walnut is a match made in heaven.

Steve

It's funny that every time I show that cutter I get inquiries. Here is a link:

I made some modifications and I've learned some really good tricks to use it so contact me if you get one and I'll share what I did/know.

More progress pics from Mark. Things are really taking shape.

Sides are bent. I can't imagine how nerve racking it must be to do this. Then again ... I imagine it's like water off a ducks back for Mark.

The neck and tail block are glued into place. The tail block is 163 yr-old Black Walnut and the neck block is Mahogany.

The support for the arm bevel is set in place. Mark and I decided on Spanish Cedar for it's aromatic qualities.

The kerfing is also of Spanish Cedar. Along with the Cedar top this is going to be one sweet smelling guitar.

Mark has selected the BRW for the binding, fretboard and bridge. I'm really liking the striping in that fretboard and bridge.

The neck is 163 yr-old Black Walnut with a cross grained BRW center strip bordered by maple laminates.

Mark tells me the stainless-steel fretwire is in as well. It is some kind of fun watching him work his magic.

Beautiful job Mark!
