top bracing
Peter uses a variety of bracing patterns in his guitars (see my earlier posting). For my western red cedar top, he chose the 7 fan hybrid pattern and went to about 2.2 mm (0.087") in the center to about 2.0 mm (0.079") at the rims. Peter told me that he generally leaves the top a few tenths of a millimeter thicker, but this is really relative to what bracing pattern he decides to go with.
He used very stiff port orford cedar braces on mine and as a result, went quite low in height with the bracing, and did a few things with the profile of the braces that are unique to this guitar. These numbers are also important to the bridge wing thickness and weight, which he is thinking about during the process, since the bridge is primarily another brace.

Tuners
I just received some shots from Rob Rodgers of the tuner set that he made for Peter with engraved brass plates with oval ebony buttons.

Rodgers tuners
Rob made a set for me last year. The quality is amazing, the best I've ever seen. You're going to love them.

I love that headstock. And boy is that too to die for - I absolutely love cedar with interesting and dark colour variation and actually picked up a similar looking set of wood recently to have a nylon crossover built with.

Build Update
Here is Peter's neck to body gluing fixture.
His spline joint. The hard maple core within the Spanish cedar neck is seen. The african ebony fingerboard is glued on to the neck. The fret wire is installed. Peter carves the neck. Here are the binding miters. The black cherry back in white pre-finish.

Some Details & French Polish Begins
A relief carved stippled headstock with a BRW underlayment beneath a black cherry headplate veneer.
The back side of the peghead. The rosette...Looks like this is guitar number 133 for Peter. The French Polish process will take about 3-weeks. Here is the guitar after its first application of Danish Oil. The cherry begins its transformation...

You're welcome! I actually have many other shots of his fixtures which I find as interesting as the guitar itself.

Just beautifully crisp and elegant work; so good to see Peter's guitars on this Forum.
I just wish I could have the opportunity to play one. |

neck joint
Here is a close-up shot, pre-FP of the stippled BRW underlayment.
I skipped Peter's neck joint technique which I found interesting. I believe he learned this technique when he apprenticed for Robert Ruck. He needs to establish curvature and angle to the neck to match the body. He has a cool fixture that works with a drum sander on his drill press to accomplish this. Here is a shot of the spline slot in both the body and neck that runs the full depth of the heel. He uses A baltic birch spline. Here is a finished spline joint.
